A question to all of the PH'ers... Has your car ever given you a reputation that proceeds you and made you a 'fixture' of the local area?

I ask because I am still slightly on a buzz about some comments made to me today, last week I took some 'mild' petrol heads out in my S4 (on seperate occasions) and turned the wick up to about 9/10.

Also was told by the paperboy on Thursday that they can here my car hooning down the local bypass in the mornings.

Anyway people who don't know me personally do know me from my car.

Any other PH'er have a cars who's reputation proceeds them?

ETA: I know that the S4 at 340bhp isn't that quick (compared to a TVR/Porsche/Zonda etc) but when these guys have only been in a BMW 316 it feels it.

So you drive flat out through the gears near a school?

When will someone think of the children?

The bypass runs Paralelle (spelt wrong) to the road the school is on about 1/4 a mile away across some feilds. I have driven along the road the school is many times and the 30mph limit there is one I always adhere to - no bullst on this one.

Like I said at the bottom of the OP, the S4 is not that fast but comapred to BMW 316's Fiestas and Escorts it is. Also as I said these are mild Petrol Heads, not the sort of people who have been on Tackdays etc. There really aren't many people into cars round here.

The drug dealers round here drive SAAB's and Volvo's to keep a low profile .

When I had a brand new Audi at 19 people thought I was a drug dealer, even some close people thought I was dealing on the side.

Reputation? Probably. Hate? Definitely.

I have had, ahem..'discussions' with my neighbours to the left, and my neighbours to the right. One complained it is to noisy, the other complained my car made her washing smell.

I suggested to both if they don't like it...'move'

I now give them both extra 'blips' of the throttle when i park up in the garage. I'm generous like that you see. biggrin

There's some cock who keeps hooning his estate car around our town in Gloucestershire.

He keeps telling everyone it's a r4 p8 or something, we humour him and go for rides in his car.

there was a few questions raised about the engine in a p100 pick up i used to own on the basis that i used to drive it sideways everywhere,
and then one day at a mates work, one of his work mates came and asked him if he had seen the nutter with the pick up apparently it has a cosworth engine in it (it was a 2.0 pinto with a blown exhaust) and only used to go sideways due to the dodgey tyres that were on it

A couple of years ago my brother came to visit. The silly sod forgot to print the last page of directions that I had emailed him. Where he lives in Devon that wouldn't have been a problem. In my part of London it is a bit harder to find a specific road.
His directions took him to a couple of roads away, at which point he asked a guy which house had the TVR. The guy immediately pointed him in our direction smile

"Has your car ever given you a reputation?"

No, but I think I might have gained one in various ways through my use of it. It seems to be well known locally. I just hope this is not always for the wrong reasons. rolleyes
