We Don't All Dig Motorsickles, But...

Captain America will ride again at Goodwood FoS!

Goodwood has announced that legendary Hollywood star Peter Fonda – aka Captain America from the cult film Easy Rider – will be cruising the hill-climb course on a replica of his stars ‘n’ stripes-emblazoned  chopper from the movie.

You’ll have to be at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on the Sunday to see the two stars re-united, according to the Goodwood Motor Sport Press office. The event marks the 40th anniversary of the ground-breaking Easy Rider road movie, and if you don’t think the subject is suitable news for PistonHeads – don’t worry, we’re back onto cars already!

Not the fastest bike ever made, and it'll be fun watching it try to navigate the bends. Best done during the lunch break....

Nice. So Speed Matters, but only if you choose to filter life through a cage?

Indeed ! And for those in PH editorial-have you ever noticed how many bikes regularly attend, & how many people gather around the bikes & racers themselves, in the FoS paddock when you've been there ?

Or were you too busy trying to get within half a mile of the latest F1 untouchable at the time?

p.s. wasn't it actually the bike that was called "Captain America" anyway??

Didn't they actually 'lose' the original so the story goes? I seem to recall Jack Nicholson being interviewed about it.

Well the 'bike' they're talking about certainly won't have it :P.

Never been a 'cruiser' person, me. (Nor into the ones that have been made even worse at going around corners.)

Yup,
The character Peter Fonda played was nicknamed Captain America, which is probably why people refer to the bikes that way.

If you see my previous wiki link it say yes......but dig a bit deeper for a proper review and it say no

http://www.filmsite.org/easy.html

personally, I'd side with the latter so assume the mantle of 'Captain America' moved from Fonda to the bike like a chinese whisper.....I'll point wiki to the article

That's a good link. I only know because after seeing the film some years ago. I remember the scene after they were arrested for parading without a license in some small town, Billy explains loudly to the sheriff "Do you know who this is man? This is Captain America" or words to that effect.

So I've often wondered why people thought the bike was named when it was plainly Fonda. smile

True. Its a bit disappointing if its considered that a PistonHead can only have interest in cars. There is plenty of motor equipment that will give you just as big/bigger adrenalin rush, will require just the same/more technical skill to operate it and involves the same passion for it as cars.
