ok, Ebay is a great way for selling unwanted items, CD's book's etc and hard to find colectables.

But who on earth would buy a second hand car on there?
Its a big enough minefield without throwing in a few unexploded bombs.

Anyone actually bought a car of ebay?

I've read reports on American forums about people buying Ferraris legitimately without any problems. Many American dealers advertise on there, just like Verdi etc advertise on Pistonheads. Something about being able to write off taxes or something. I personally wouldn't!

My brother sold my old 16vGTE that I passed onto him through Ebay. Chap came from Heathrow to Taunton/Somerset to pick it up and was chuffed to bits with it. Think it made around £400...with 160k miles and the usual crusty rear arches.

My housemate bought her Volvo on Ebay. Only cost her 150 quid and the only things to go have been the exhaust and the fan belts.

I wouldn't buy anything over Ebay that was too expensive, though I'd be prepared to take a gamble!

Why is it any different to a copy of autotrader? You can still go and look at the car before you buy it.

Yes...... it's in another recent thread... Silverback_Mike (I think) said something about "eBaying when p155ed"

I did it once and bought a Ford Escort for £75

I won the auction, and as the seller wasn't too far from home, I went to see it, and decided to do the deal.

Sold it in Loot the following week for £100!

You can if the bidding hasn't ended, if you're the winning bidder you are obliged to buy it.
I've bought 5 cars and 2 motorbike off ebay, all for less than £1k each, only had one bad one which was a bike which I relisted on ebay and lost £60 on it

I bought a nice little boat on Ebay in the winter, ran it all season, sold it in August for twice as much as I paid for it. Free fun!

No complaints but go and have a look first.

I bought an old BMW 528ise for about £400 ish.
FSH 2 Owners, absolutely fantastic condition with dogleg box, and sport interior, LSD the works.

Had oodles of fun, it never let me down and sold it for a profit eventually.

It is extremely important to ask the relevant questions prior to purchase, and you can get some excellent cars - Some complete donkeys too.

I have sold a few on ebay as well.

I went to see a 25 year old TVR 1600M that was on Ebay.

The car wasn't bad, but was a bit pricey for me.

The vendor told me that I was the only person to have been to look at it.

Others seemed to be bidding serious money without having even seeing the car....

Crazy.

If you can't go and view it while the auction is on, the seller is not worth buying from.

Yup I bought a car off ebay, treated it exactly like any other 2nd hand purchase, met the seller looked over the car, took it for a test drive and put in the winning bid.

Saved £1500 off the book value.

i bought my 2.0 ghia cortina after seeing it on ebay, the guy had advertised the car without pics and a price of £xxx on another forum and when i saw the cars pic i gave him a bell straight away and saw/bought the car the next day.

i dont see a problem with buying a car from ebay as long as you go and look it over properly before deciding to bid you'll be o.k......unless its an absolute bargain that even if its rubbish youll get more selling the parts from it and its only got a few minutes to go that is!!

I sold my NSX through an ebay ad. First time I advertised it, I didn't have a single viewer, yet I had bids up to £13k!

Second time I put it on ebay a guy came to see it and we did the deal like any other.

My brother likes it; he's just bought a new bonnet for his Spitfire for £40, and currently has a bid in for an exhaust manifold for £1!

I bought this BMW last week off e-bay.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2442237575&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOAB:UK:6

I love these motors as being as they are top of the range, most of them have been looked after by company directors. This one was rare BRG metallic, amd it's mint, with no dents of rust or scratches (apart from some ar$ehole that keyed in the week ). Its the later V8, with the four speed switchable auto, and all the toys work, except the reversing distance gadget, and they're for puffs anyway.

Its only done 120K miles, and it drives like new. The book price is £3K, but it was a £35K car new - bargain. E-bay is good if you know your market, but you still have to put your trust in the honesty of the seller, and in that respect it is no different to buying from anyone else. The highlight for me was I actually phoned him up and offered him £2.5K for the car, but he was convinced it would fetch more..I bought it for £2251, with some fierce last minute bidding and thats what makes it a fun place to buy a car. BTW he was a dealer, so I have some comeback if there were problems, but the car is a minter and I am well pleased with it. I have since had it serviced, and my spanner thrower says its a good 'un. The only other thing was I had to have the radio re-coded (£50) as the battery went flat in the showroom. The in built CD- boot changing system is awesome for a factory OEM unit, much better than I have ever heard from any other 'bundled' unit.

Next car will come off E-bay too.

Bought my 800 Kawasaki on there with no probs at all - the seller was local so I went and test rode it first.

2 years old, never seen rain (and not even run in) for less than half the price new...I'm well happy!
