Excuse my ignorance but does resetting an ECU that has been remapped affect the re-map?

Anybody?

Have searched a bit and some sites have suggested that ECU maps replace the baseline software of the ECU and therefore if this is reset the map remains, but others seem to suggest that a reset restores the ECU to factory defaults, which if mods done would affect performance potentially quite a bit.

Disconnecting the battery or resetting won't. An ECU remap overwrites the original parameters, therefore the only way to get it back to the original parameters is to have it rewritten back again.

The ECU map is stored in non volatile memory that isnt dependant on the state of the ECU, the fault codes and adapation data is written into the volatile memory of the ECU which is dependant on the state of the ECU and it's power supply. Similar to working on a file on your pc, if you save it to your hard drive (non volatile) and turn the pc off you dont lose it, if you dont save it (volatile memory e.g. RAM) and turn off the pc you'll lose it

Re-setting it ie disconnecting the battery won't affect the map but flashing the ROM will erase it.
