Right, I don't know where to post this ... oh bugger that - I can't be arsed.

For some reason I am feeling like such a barsteward and I'm not really sure why.

Story ::

I was driving home this afternoon and was turning left at a round-a-bout. There was a chap in the middle lane going straight on (me in the left going left!!). Anyway, going round the round-a-bout for some reason he drifted into my lane and then back into his.

As he drifted into my lane he hit my offside rear 3/4 panel with his nearside front wing. He didn't stop (which is another story) so I chased him down and persuaded him to stop (hard to make progress if there is a car blocking your way). Anyway, he claimed not to have known that he hit me, but admitted fault - not a problem.

The damage doesn't look too bad, but upon the inspection the trained eye of the bodyshop dude and myself we realise that the pannel is definately (although only slightly) bent out of shape and there is definate paint chips (not stone chips!!) and the wheel is also scuffed there too frown

So I went to get a quote and call him feeling really crap as it is just so much more than we both expected. £800 is the estimate (note, not quote!!). He is an old boy so I would guess not working.

This is something that I for some reason feel like such a basteward, yet none of it is my fault (as he has admited) and I really don't know why I feel like this frown

Any ideas??

I know if I didn't feel so crap I would be wondering how people can drive like this and having an impact and not knowing it happened!!

Cheers

If he's insured, he doesn't have a great deal to worry about. If he's not, then it's his own stupid fault.

Mate, it is why we pay for insurance...

Being an old boy, he probably pays £50/year for insurance and it is more than likely protected. He hit you - it's not a declaration of war!

Let the ins co sort it out, easiest way. Asking for £800ish off a pensioner would be immoral, but getting their ins co to pay for it - perfectly fine smile

I guess!

I just keep thinking like its going to put up his premium and if he didn't notice hitting me it wouldn't surprise me if he has hit a fair few people like this therefore has less of a NCB etc etc.

That was why I posted here - I didn't know why I felt like such a basteward!! I guess I feel I'm asking for £800 off a retiree!

Cheers

Sounds like he shouldn't really be driving if he genuinely didn't notice. How old are we talking?

Don't feel bad.

If you feel that bad can you not live with the damage?

If not, insurance claim and it won't hit him too bad I wouldn't have thought.

Agreed. Just make sure you don't get any expensive hire cars or do any personal injury bks.

£800 claim won't hurt him that much.

By law he must have Third Party insurance and, as someone said, probably pays bugger all for it. I wouldn't feel too bad. Very odd if he didn't actually feel £800 of damage happening. Maybe this will cause him to stop driving which might not be a bad thing if he's that unaware.

He knew that he hit you and hoped he could get away with it, don't feel sorry for him.

Well that doesn't add up, does it? Surely if he genuinely hadn't noticed he wouldn't just put his hands up to it?

Adrenaline come-down. Admit it, you got a bit excited and wound up, a bit hyper, when it happened, and you tore off down the road to kill your pray stop the poor old fella.

Perhaps he'll learn to stay in his lane in future.....

This is one of those things that REALLY f**ks me off about a certain type of driver...

Right

Have had a few drinks now and feel less of a barsteward and now am only REALLY fked off that he has made my previously straight car now unstraight GRRRRRR. The car only have stone chips and a parking dent or two rather than the panel being like this frown

Oh well... at least no-one got hurt!!

But we all know that women are not as good as blokes so when I say no-one got hurt I think it was very apt!!

But my poor car is frown.

Why do you use the exclamation mark at the end of the sentence ? It sounds like you are taking the piss and don't really care ?

Interesting mis-quoting going on there!! smile The ! at the end of the last sentance was not to show I don't care or was taking the piss, rather that it was surprising that even though it will probably come out of an insurance company that I still felt like I was taking £800 off a retiree.

HTH
