And it was a goodun!

My e30 318i has been parked up for a few weeks, so every now and again i take it out for a drive just to keep things ticking over.

Well friday night after work i took it down the road about a mile or so away, came back around the Rb and back up toward the house, whilst rounding a corner at about 40-45mph, the left rear tyre totaly let go (hole in the side wall) sending me spining into a lamp post, the rear quater window exploding behind my head, then down an embankment where it went through a fence and ended up on its side.

I was suspended in my seatbelt, covered in glass, unable to get out as the door was stuck, started to panic a bit untill i realised the only way out was through the rear window.

The car is a total write off, luckily no one else was envolved, i got away with no real noticeable damage, although i have pain in my back, neck, shoulders, both knees and possibly a broken rib.

I keep kicking myself thinking i should have checked all the tyres before i drove it, i have to admit its not something i usualy do but i will be doing so from now on, just lucky i wasn't pushing on a bit harder as it could have been alot worse.

I'm still in shock to be fair, i cant beleive whats happend, doesn't seem real, just unlucky i guess frown

Phase 2 is done!!

Now on to phase 3....

Seriously, sorry to hear that... I used to check my car everytimt it had been parked up longer than a week just due to things like that and bcracked seals, etc....

Blimey McLovin you should be in the SAS if you consider no noticeable damage as a cracked rib, damaged knee, shoulder, and neck, etc. More Sherminator than McLovin IMO.

You're still ticking which is the main thing: we all live for cars but in the final analysis, they don't matter.

No, that's a complete pile but you get the idea. wink

Good job you walked away without any (serious) damage! Sounds nasty.

The main thing is no-one else was hurt. (that is quite hardcore, saying no noticable damage.)

At least you still have another car for transport.

Thats it, as you say the main thing is no one else was envolved.

Hitting the lamp post on the drivers side, sideways, flipped the car onto its side as it peeled off the lamp post, the force involved was like nothing i have ever experienced.

I've had a pretty bad year this year, this has not helped much hehe

Glad you are not seriously hurt.

I don't think that the same can be said for the car, but being realistic, you can always get another one. The same isn't true for your body.

I guess it also stands as a bit of a warning to check tyres on cars that have been standing a bit...

Glad to hear you weren't too badly hurt!! You might be able to flog on bits and bobs salvaged from the car, interior etc. might take the sting out of it.
Nice straight e30's are getting very thin on the ground!!

Yup, it had a mint blue leather interior in it and some other bits and bobs, Kw v2 coilovers etc...

I've stripped it allready, so will stick it all up for sale this week.

Couple of questions here...

(a) How did you establish the hole in the tyre happened pre prang..?

(b) How does the NSR tyre let go and spin the offside into a lamp post?

Yes. McLovin, are you also on the lookout for a new lease car? Fast but good MPG? Company pays for everything and you pay no tax? wink
