German Tuner Reveals 286bhp VW Scirocco

Munich-based HS Motorsport reveals tuned 'Remis' Scirocco that should outgun forthcoming Scirocco R20

286bhp Remis will outgun 261bhp R20
286bhp Remis will outgun 261bhp R20
If you can't wait until September for the VW Scirocco R20, or if its promised 261bhp and 258lb ft isn't enough (the Focus RS does have 300bhp, after all), Munich-based tuner HS Motorsport may have come to your rescue.

HS has revealed the 286bhp 'Remis', a modified body-kitted Scirocco. HS takes the standard 1984cc 2.0-litre EA113 engine (the same as in the Scirocco R20 and not the new EA888 from the latest Golf GTI) and uses a new air intake and modified exhaust as well as a few other internal modifications to turn the wick up.

This is not going to have a soft ride...
This is not going to have a soft ride...
Those still yearning after more power (and, presumably, horrific torque steer) will eventually be able to specify a 315bhp version, says HS.

Unfortunately, unlike the Scirocco R20, the Remis doesn't have VW's clever XDS electronic differential to help it put its power onto the road, but it does get H&R coilover suspension, a one-piece disc-and-caliper brake system, and 20-inch alloys wearing Vredestein 245/30 ZR20 rubber.

Visual tweaks include carbonfibre bumpers and side skirts, while inside there are heated Recaro bucket seats and some, er, striking white embroidered Remis logos.

There are no official performance figures for the Remis, but we suspect that its speed will be matched by an ability to shred front tyres.

Bumpers are carbonfibre

Mmmm...tasteful embroidery...

If it's torque steering, they're doing something wrong. Didn't get much torque steer out of a 310lb-ft Astra (certainly nothing like horrific), and the Lancer hasn't a hint of it despite being close to 250lb-ft.

"It torque steers" is simply a bleat uttered by men with weak arms to try and cover up their liking for quiche.

Where's the LSD?

VW don't have Renaults sport cup suspension or Fords RevoKnuckle so this car is just gonna P@ss away all its power and Feck those vredesteins to pieces.

VW's seem to be moving backwards where other manufacturers are pioneering.

I'd still take a mark 2 golf GTI (prefferably Rallye) over any other VW since.

hahahahahahaha

Kind of agree, after owning a 200bhp mk 2 golf you have to learn to love a bit of tourque stear on the twisties. Except for rainy days when its all lift off oversteer drifts baby.

Man I need to sell my 3 series and get me a hot hatch again.

Still love quiche though!!!

Why you wouldn't just DIY all this lot?

Why do you need a "German Tuner" to put big wheels on, lower it, and remap it?

+1

Doesn't even need the wheels, stick it on some TSW venoms with some nankangs and then people won't be umming and arring about whether its Sh@t or not cos it'll be obvious. and you've just saved yourself an extra £1500 to spend on some NO2.

Extreme? Yes but it's about performance, not looks, which is all the new scirocco seems to be about, Looks great, handles like sh........

I've got a Bora diesel with 290lb ft of torque. I am intimately acquainted with torque steer. laugh

A 286 bhp Scirocco? What next? A 300 bhp Focus?

If FWD were that good, F1 cars would have it. It just doesn't seem right having a fast FWD car.

Excuse my obvious igorance.... but WTF is "a one-piece disc-and-caliper brake system"??? How do the wheels go round if it's "One Piece"??

I can only think the author meant two-piece (as in: seperate disc and bell) but somehow got it muddled up?

If I've read this correctly, you're basically saying that anything that makes a car fast will be found on an F1 car. Furthermore, as F1 cars aren't FWD, then a fast FWD car is wrong. Therefore, anything pertinent to a fast car that isn't on an F1 car is wrong, and anything that is found on an F1 car is right. This means that any car labeled 'fast' has to have everything an F1 car has, and should have nothing that an F1 car doesn't, and therefore all fast cars have to be F1 cars.
Does this mean you have a benchmark for what makes a slow car? Is it a tractor? Assuming it is a tractor, do you believe that all slow cars must have everything a tractor has, and nothing a tractor doesn't have, therefore becoming a tractor?

So, by your logic, you must drive either an F1 car or a tractor. Which do you have?
