My Mum and Dad are looking for a new car...
They are considering a Hyundai i10 I am thinking they can do better for £8000
The car will be paid for in full so no need to suggest leasing a car etc.
They are not really petrol heads but want a car with the following:

Good MPG (60 mpg on the i10)
Warranty (5 years on the i10)
Air con
Full electrics
Alloys
Metallic paint
CD Player

Dad has said he would consider a nearly new car i.e pre registered etc - but isn't looking at cars that are a few years old.

Over to you guys...

I think the Skoda Roomster is a good call for older people as its cheap, reliable and has a tall driving position.

Other than that not really sure, it depends if it has to be new or if it can be a year old, and if it must have that 5 year warranty.

Honda Jazz? Very very highly rated, one of the most reliable cars on the road and there quite nice to drive in my experience. £8k *should* get you a base spec nearly new model.

Toyota Yaris? Cheaper than the Jazz and almost just as reliable but not as nice inside and less enjoyable to drive.

Nissan Note? Again very similar to the Jazz and Roomster with the high up driving position.

Can't think of much else scratchchin

I don't rate the Hyundai/ Kia stuff as I get the feeling they are really built very cheaply and only designed to last until the warranty is up.

I had a similar feeling about the Hyundai i.e resale values etc.
I was thinking along the lines of a Honda Jazz, VW Fox etc - a bit more premium than a cheap and cheerful Hyundai.
I also get the feeling the market will be swamped with this type of car in a few years time due to them being the choice of the credit crunch hit car scrappage masses!

I'd avoid the VW Fox as its not really a proper VW like the rest of the range as its built cheaply in Brazil and this really shows when you look closely at the build quality. Quite often you can get a Polo for less than a Fox if you haggle, because the Foxes cost more to import.

Great cars, but would someone of that age really want the sporty performance model?

Well my Dads 64 and bought a new Audi S4 4.2 V8, so why not? Its only a Panda with a 1.4 engine and sporty looks. It will certainly sell again, and being the 100HP its top of the range with all the bells and whistles.

My mum is 59 and really likes her Panda 100HP. Her only criticism of it is that the suspension is pretty rock hard and isn't so much fun over speed bumps. They're very well specced for the money.
