US Dealer Offers Free AK-47 With Every Truck

'Mad' Max Motors in Missouri offers assault rifles as a sales promotion

A Missouri truck dealer is hoping to stem the sales slide by offering a free assault rifle to customers who sign-up for a new set of wheels.

The novel scheme has grabbed the attention of media around the world, and you can hear all about it from the surprisingly genial-sounding owner of Max Motors on the CNN clip below.

Mark Muller is apparently upgrading an earlier sales gimmick in which he offered new truck buyers a choice between a $250 gas voucher or a gun voucher. According to his website, the gun giveaway is back 'due to popular demand'.

According to Business Insider, another US publication that reported the story, Muller says his scheme 'generates a lot of publicity and really angers liberals'.

As giveaways go, it's a lot more imaginative than the free set of floor-mats on offer from the typical UK outfit. Amusing suggestions from PHers as to how our car dealers could spice up their offers with imaginative promotions are very welcome!

guns don't kill people - people kill people.

Same way as speeding doesn't kill, just bad drivers.

Both are lethal in the wrong hands and both are lambasted by the ignorant.

Driving serves a useful purpose.

What is the purpose of a hand gun or an assault rifle?

Oooh, nice! Anyone know what the exchange rate is?

Seriously though, imagine the UK version:

"Buy this Land Rover and you get the choice of a chiropracter voucher or a Fox-Hound"

Cheers, I'll take the voucher...

What's the point of having a car capable of doing more than 70mph?

You enjoy owning it and using it. Simple!

So, loosely, you're comparing a track day to shooting at a firing range. I can vaguely undestand that, but a car can serve a dual purpose role in being usable for fun and transport. Being able to do more than 70mph is thus only a by-product.

By that logic, a gun's primary purpose is to cause harm, and its secondary purpose is to shoot at targets. So in a similar way to having a 70mph speed limit to stop people driving at life threatening speeds, why should anyone be allowed to carry one on their person, other than perhaps travelling to and from a firing range?

This is a PR exercise rather than a sales incentive. The whole point is that it's controversial.

Unfortunately PH has fallen into the PR monkey's trap again and are doing their beckoning.
