But i saw it.

This afternoon had to run my mum to hospital, i waited around for a couple of hours, until my dad came up, i then left the hospital and was driving home. Went through some traffic lights, a little bit further along the road i see a HGV doing a U-Turn, it then parks up with the hazards on, the driver jumped out, ran straight infront of me, towards a motionless body laying on the pavement, another car had already stopped ahead of him, so i parked blocking traffic from seeing the guy on the pavement.

The Forklift on the back of the HGV had caught the guy, pinning him against a wall, some quite clear crush injuries to his lower abdomen and legs, no blood, the gent was talking, he was 30, walking home from work.

My dads just got in from the hospital, he said there was alot of fuss going on up there, and the road where this all happened is still closed (3hours on) so i'm now fearing the guy has passed on. Really dont know what to say or do, feel like i should be doing something. frown

Same thing happened in my local town, but it decapitated a man and his wife who were in their 60s. Bad indeed.

Seems trucks have something called the "whip"? The bit that swings at the back?

So was the truck doing the u turn when the guy got trapped?
The back ends really do swing out especially when you have a hulking great fork lift on the back. The driver will be in serious st.

Feel for both the victims and you for seeing it.

Horrible. frown

Eta if the axles on the trailer are further in then the more the swing. And if the driver was turning "blind side" as in left for a rhd he wouldn't be able to see the back of his truck anyway, just a wall of trailer.

Yeah, it was the 'swing' obviously with the lift cab on the back it was just too wide. Was talking to a guy at the scene who was walking on the other side of the road at the time who stopped to let the cab end of the hgv up the kerb, and noticed the guy behind. frown

Driver was foreign, i invited him to sit in the Volvo while waiting for the police, he didnt seem to understand, maybe in a fair bit of shock. A girl i know lives across from where it happened, police are taking pictures of the scene, thats never a good sign.

I should bd think so, too!

fking EU lorryists are a bd peril on the roads over here....

I'd hate to get all communist and make them hand the loads over to UK drivers at the tunnel, but I'm tempted some days.

Not that I'm prejudging the situation, or anything wink

I was walking along the street once when an 18 tonne refrigerated truck drove past. About 10 yards after passing me, the nearside rear door at the back of the truck swung open right across the width of the pavement. If it'd happened a second ealier it would have killed me outright; it was only luck there wasn't anyone in front of me.

There's often a fine line between life and death.

Some of the better drivers that I work with are foreign. Some of the worst are also foreign though wink It is something that you either can or can't do. Some of the tests that I hear talked about are atrocious though. The Bulgarian truck licence test seems to be the worst. eek

I once (very nearly) saw a chap getting run over by a tram in Blackpool. I still don't know quite how that happened, unless he was pushed in front of it.

You're completely correct, they really shouldn't be on the roads over here.

Just had deja vu

Difficult to judge without knowing the facts.

People frequently walk/cycle/drive right behind a reversing vehicle with no apparent concern or idea of the limited visibility and impending danger. A product of blame&claim not-my-fault H&S bubble culture.

Coronation Street doesn't count. At least poor Rita escaped, though.

For real giblets, you need a bloke jumping off a motorway bridge infront of the bus you're following, and said bloke coming out from under the bus. Wasn't pretty, and he nearly ended up with me over the top of him too, thankfully I was able to get slowed and round him.

Was once on a bus home from town and a young las about 16-17, ran in front of it (was doing about 50) and bounced off the front window, she was in a real mess, face split right open and her right leg too, no blood though, was a clean cut.

Blast 10PS, you beat me to that! Furiously scrolled down the page hoping nobody had posted about the Alan Bradley stop.
Things like that happen on Coronation Street? Damn, soaps aren't as boring as they seem.
