Is it just me, who doesn't bother checking the car when I see this phrase in an ad?
Just read a post from the Mpower section about letting your mrs drive your prie and joy.

I understand that females are less likely to total a car or kill it's engine through abuse (but more likely to kill it through neglect), but at least when I buy from a bloke I have a chance that the car hasn't been abused, whereas when i buy a car from a female it's almost certain that all the wheels have been treated to a kerb finish, wrong fuel has been used at some point of its' life and oil has unlikely to have been topped up in good time. The trim and bumpers are likely to have been stress tested too.

I am not being any more sexist than a car insurance company classifying all females to be safe drivers by the way.

Still is a very bad general sweeping statement! You should look at the individual car for its merits!

I am a girl! I rag my car to hell, I look after it well in terms of maintanence, and the alloy scuff on it was from the one and only time my ex borrowed it.

Girls are quite capable of looking after cars even in they don't show interest in them.

Agreed. Some of our drivers are terrible for looking after their cars - careless bumps, ignoring warning lights etc.

Girlie driver? Well she polishes her car every other day, it's always immaculate, driven quickly but somehow she uses less diesel and gets through less tyres than most of the others.

It's all down to attitude. Some people just don't give a fk about their car, and some do.

Same chance wether the owner is male or female in my opinion. smile

I don't agree that it is the same chance.

There is some chance, but I would wager that more men have an interest in cars and from that, proportionally a male owned car is likely to have had more care.

There will still be individuals who are different from this.

And for the OP, yes a lady owner advertised car is not likely to entice me.

I don't mean to offend.
So even more reason to run for the hills then, since he exception of my sweeping statment rags her car to hell wink

Yes the girls here can look after the cars, but I don't know any others that do.

They don't treat speed bumps as a reason to slow a car down. Never check oil/water/tyre pressure (you know this to be the case in a big 4x4 or a little car).

I realise lots of men are this dumb too, but in much smaller number than the girls.

You said men are more likely to abuse their car, I was just saying girls do that to hehe

I just think its to much of a generalisation to make when looking at a potential car, yeah the seller is making one by saying it thinking it will sell the car, but it like saying well men generally like playing football more than women so there for men must be generally fitter!

I think it would be a general intellegance thing, a general intellegent person would know you need to look after a car well to help maintain its value etc.

To be honest it's blokes who think they know about cars and play with them that could do more damage than good!

Ignore the guff in the ads, go and view a car if it meets your criteria.
Personally, any advert with spelling mistakes, broken Engrish or txtspk gets ignored by me though.

+1, although I will ask enough questions over the phone to ascertain that the SH is main dealer as claimed.
I also avoid anything in Birmingham and East/SEast London. Discriminatory ? Yes, but I've always found it a waste of time when buying.

I've even not bothered going to see a couple of cars down the years purely because I didn't like the sound of the owner.
Unless EVERYTHING is totally right I won't part with money for a car.

I'd rather have a car from a woman than a man.

Much less likely to have had a major thump, much more likely to be honest about it, and much less likely to have been taken to 7000rpm straight from cold.

Being a bloke, I find it insulting patronising and sexist that an advertiser would consider a lady owner to be better than a man. There are generally plenty more cars out there, so I just scratch any car with that comment off my list and look elsewhere.

The other one that really gets me is an advert without a price. FFS, it's obvious to any buyer that if your price is competetive, you'll shout it from the rooftops. However, if you're trying to get more than the market rate for your car and you're worried that people won't call, then not stating the price would be just right!

As soon as I read the phrase "one careful lady owner" I think:

knackered cluth
poorly serviced
poor paint upkeep
rarely and badly washed
mainy scrapes
parking dings
kerb'd wheels
etc etc etc

This is not a sexist thing, it's just from experience of working on womens cars. My mum and sisters cars have all of the above for example.

Mine was one careful lady owner. And about 3 months after buying the clutch was replaced, luckily still under 3 year manufacturers warranty.

I make no judgements but perhaps the facts speak for themselves! wink

You can't second guess a car's condition by making assumptions about an owner. There are so many "what if" scenarios it's a pointless exercise. Even the most careless driver in the world might also happen to own an alloy refurbishment business smile

I know plenty of people I wouldn't buy cars off but it has very little to do with their gender.

By the way, the Australian mining industry actively encourages women to drive the massive dump trucks because they look after the vehicles and tyres better.

No, you are being a fool, and yes, a sexist fool at that.

Cars driven by girls are much less likely to be thrashed. Ever seen a girl thrashing an engine just to make a noise? The reverse gear will be in almost new condition (thus much less likley to have syncomesh issues) and girls dont attempt to do 'those little jobs' themselves they leave them to the dealership.

Obviously though, in terms of an advert, you do have to make sure it realy is for sale by a female, not just a lieine bloke or dealer.... wink
