Sportec Remaps Audi TT RS To 400bhp
New tuning package sharpens the fastest TT's performance edge
An ECU remap designed to put extra hair on the chest of your new Audi TT RS has been developed by Swiss tuners Sportec.
The Sportec Audi TT RS Stage One package costs £1200 all-in, for which the UK distributor promises significant performance improvements. Quoted power output is up from 335bhp at 5,400rpm to a healthy (hopefully!) 400bhp at 5,800rpm, while peak torque jumps from 328lb ft to 401lb ft - improvements that Sportec have graphically illustrated with the accompanying, er, graph...
Post conversion, Sportec reckons the 0-62mph time for the TT RS drops from 4.6 to 4.2secs, and says in-gear acceleration times are greatly improved. They also remove the factory's 155mph speed-limiter during the conversion.
We've not had a chance to sample the Sportec goods, but it sounds to us as though this could be a step in the right direction for the TT RS, which in standard guise seemed to lack a little of the hoped-for 'edge' when we drove it abroad and here in the UK.
According to the UK distributor APS Brackley, Sportec is working on a full program of performance, dynamic and styling upgrades for the car - and there'll be a demonstrator available soon. If they let us have a go in it, we'll tell you if it works!
Discussion
Yeah, you can't argue with the fact that they get good co2 figures etc. but the way it peaks at 2500rpm then suddenly drops off before it flattens and then drops off at 5400rpm isn't really that nice.
A torque curve should ideally be as flat and predicatable as possible as it makes it so much more drivable. Since getting my LCR remapped I now think that remapping a VAG car is mandatory!

Does your £1200 buy you reliable power or a potential grenade?
Going on history, I'd say reliable (it's less percentage power gain than on the 1.8t), however £1200 is a bit of a pisstake for what I'm guessing is less than an hours work but it'll be the 'r&d' etc. that justifies the cost.Gsink said:

Do hairdressers and batty boys really need 400bhp?
Has your mum bought you a new pencil case for the start of term yet? Then realising her mistake, she removed said name and address and when he forgot where he lived, this poor soul wondered into an internet cafe, decided he'd call himself Gsink and has lived there ever since.
The End
