Are the best deals direct from the DVLA auctions or are any of the agents (regtransfers for example) any good?

I would think that will depend on what reg you are after!

I had to request mine be put into an auction by the DVLA so as I could have a punt at it.

Usually the plates are cheaper via the DVLA.
I searched various places for my plate, but the DVLA had it cheaper than anywhere else.
Just depends if they have the particular plate you want listed or not.

DVLA also do sealed bid sales usually of the not-so-in-demand cherished plates
