Ginetta Announces New G40

Ginetta has announced plans to launch its new G40, a fully road-legal racer that will make its competition debut on the 2010 Ginetta Junior Championship grid, supporting the BTCC.

Designed and engineered at Ginetta's Leeds factory, the new G40 will feature an 1800cc sealed Zetec engine, and has a proposed weight of 850kgs, so should be a hoot on the road as well as a capable racer.

According to the company, it will be elegible for entry into a variety of racing categories as well as the Ginetta Junior series. Key features are said to include a safety cage that's 50 times stronger than minimum FIA standards, front and rear crash zones and uprated side impact bars, and enough room inside for two people to sit comfortably.

"The G40 will be the most versatile racing car on the market. Not only will it be race-worthy at a variety of levels, perhaps even GT4, but it will also be enjoyable to drive on a recreational level," says company chairman Lawrence Tomlinson.

Ginetta aims to produce an initial batch of 26 G40s starting in January, with a price tag of £24,950.

A modern day triumph GT6! pity it doesn't have a straight 6 cylinder. Nice though, hope it's a success.

What sort of bhp does a 1.8 Zetec have ? 140, 150? Should be fun in something that light. Reliable as well. I'd like to see this up against the new Megane Coupe. Now that Renault did the R26R R RR er R thing they are actually closer than before in race v comfort. The Megane has a lot more power, the Ginetta a lot less weight and rwd.

I'll be keeping a close eye on this as it is exactly the sort of thing I would love to buy - simple and uncomplicated, just like me. Hope the price stays about the same too.

You'd imagine the fuel economy would be pretty good too when not pressing on. Bet Gordon Murray would give a thumbs up with this. Agree with the comments totally, this is what is needed nowadays.

It is the same engine as in the current G20 race car, so around 120bhp I am guessing.

Though wont be holding my breath for that to appear on the roads... as it has been in pre-production mode for 2 years.

Just the job, lightweight with reasonable power. Should be fairly cheap to run as well. I like the fact that it's got a proper roof.

After Silverstone at the weekend I was just looking at the Ginetta's....

If some of the FOREX pundits are to be believed, you might get your wish!

but seriously... nice one Ginetta, lovely car, a bit like the Zolfe Orange imho.

Anyone know if Ginetta would be likely to use any other engines? Duratec would be my choice...
