Sheffield to London - Realistic Travel Time

Ok, travelling down to Brighton on Friday lunchtime for a wedding.

Google maps says 222 miles & 4 hrs which I will take with a pinch of salt.

Whats the realistic travel time?

Just going M1-M25-M23-A23. Any advantage taking M40 (I know A42/M42 can be a bh)

When I read this at first I thought it said Realistic Time Travel. I did agree as going from Sheffield to London is like traveling into the future

I would do A1, M11, M25, M23. The M1 had some major issues with the specs through the road works when we went down to Silverstone a few weeks ago.

It normally takes us around 3.5-4 hours to do Sheffield to Eastbourne, where the OH's family lives.

Is that J25-28? Its only a short distance, would it make that much difference?

Went through it mid morning a few months ago with no problems. Obviously it depends on time/day.

We went through it on a Friday afternoon and a Sunday afternoon and it was a nightnare both times. The A1 flows a lot better now all the roundabouts have been removed.

It's about 20 miles of roadworks....all "specced up"....

Yes, there is an advantage doing the M40, because that
way you miss out the road works on the M25 from the M1 to the M40.

I've never had any problems with the M42 / A42.

M1 considerably faster than the A1 / A14 / M11 route - most
of the latter route is two lanes each way and festooned with
mature folks who wear hats while they drive.

Well made it down in exactly 4hrs setting off friday lunch and back in 4hrs 10mins setting off at 3pm Sunday.

Went M1-M25-M23-A23. Saw a few hold ups on the northbound M1 and the traffic slowed to crawling for about 10mins past Heathrow but it was 0.8-0.9 leptons most of the way.

First time in brighton, fantastic weather, kids swam in the sea on sat. Expensive though and very 'organic'.

Great for a weekend away but it would just wind me up living there (and I couldn't afford it), still love it ooop north!
