Lateral thinking from Evo...
Discussion
.. i see Evo has finaly latched on to the fact that regular subscribers are slightly peeved that 'new' subscribers get gifts, where as regulars are not.
Evo's plan, as far as i can work out, is to spam the living hell out of you via post, suggesting your 'subscription is up for renewal' and 'save up to 2p per issue'
thus after 2-3 letters you then bin everything with any reference to Evo without even opening it.
Therefore you actually throw your 'proper' renewal out, meaning you become a new subscriber, and claiming your gift!
Genius!

No, we get subscription only front covers which are apparently works of art. Well they are until you throw the magazine on the sofa and then the cat decides to spend the night sleeping on it.
I think the editors of EVO think we should be lucky to get such splendid magazine covers.
On the whole they use some great photographs. This month is a half arsed photoshop effort of some press pictures though!I think the editors of EVO think we should be lucky to get such splendid magazine covers.

Not just Evo, bloody Topgear too. I subscribed for two years with no free gift, emailed them to complain that dedicated readers get fEvo's plan, as far as i can work out, is to spam the living hell out of you via post, suggesting your 'subscription is up for renewal' and 'save up to 2p per issue'

k-all but people buying in a shop get a sweetener every now and again. No reply, no free gifts. w
kers. Earlier this year, I took advantage of the three issues for a tenner offer or whatever it was, guess what? Free crap with the magazine. Furious.fivesixseven8 said:

Off topic but I read the Radical SR8LM review this morning and was amused to see they didn't let the evo chap drive it! "We drove from peterborough to dover, boarded a ferry to calais and then managed to get off without skuffing the front splitter". Wow! Best part of 200 miles in a SR8 as a passenger and thats all he could write? So he wasn't driving then!
Bit disappointed with this edition, but can't quite put my finger on why. Having dealer adverts in is a little different and I haven't got used to it. Hope it doesn't go the way of Classic & Sportscar and be 50% ads. The magazine seems to be the same thickness, and tens of pages of adverts have sprouted up - so I assume content has diminished but I'm not anal enough to go back through my past editions and find out.
With all this extra advertising revenue you'd think they could splash for a "thanks for subscribing for ever and a day" gift as well as a "congrats you've just signed up" gift.
Back on topic (but a little off) I got a Top Gear mag subscription for Christmas a year or so ago, and was then plagued by a barrage of "you must be mental not to renew" letters when the year had run out. Like I'd spend my own money on that rubbish...

I think that the current (McLaren MP12) issue is the best in a while. The Top 100 bored me so much I couldn't be arsed to even finish it.
Slightly off topic, I am considering going back to Car magazine after many years away. (Jason Barlow ruined it in my view). Has anyone read the recent issues- is it any good?

Bit brutal, that. To be fair, most of the ads in C&SC are of fine machinery, no complaints here. That is, of course, as long as they don't sacrifice editorial content for adverts. As a comparison, I'm sure some here will remember the PC magazines of the early 90s which routinely would run to 1,000 pages and more....

Been reading it for nearly a year after leaving it because of the dreaded Barlow... I think it's really good, pretty underrated. Last couple of issues have actually been a better read than the same month's EVO, although that doesn't seem to be all that difficult right now, unfortunately.
