Looking for a small car ideally in insurance groups 1-3 that has cruise control. Can't seem to find any. Do they exist???

Budget up to about £3k. Reliability/economy more important than style/age/mileage. OMG. Can't believe I just wrote that... turned 40 recently so must be getting old.

The excuse is that I'll be using it for a few months to sit on French motorways at exactly 135kph, hence cruise control, then will be handing it over to 19 year old goodlife junior in Jan/Feb, hence needing to be insurance group 1-3 if possible.

scratchchinGreat input. Hadn't thought of retro-fitting.

My Sisters Fiat 126 was cheap to buy/run and had 'cruise control' (well a ring-pull attached to the throttle that stayed where you put it), would struggle with 135kmh though... rolleyes

god my spelling gets worse haha was ment to say had it fitted at the main dealer parts was around 35pound and labour was around 70pound worth while investment.

some models came as optniol extra but all the wiring is there for them anyway so its a half hour job to be fitted.

most vag cars can have cruise control fitted providing they have brake switches and pontemter in place which most newer ones do

around 40-45quid for stalk and around 5mins with vagcom to activate it which can be ownloaded free

First generation Mercedes A class. It should be fairly easy to find one for under 3K fitted with cruise. Most models are insurance group 5/6 though.

Is that the 90bhp version? I thought Vmax on those were 107mph. Quite surprised that it sat 110 comfortably.

The Fiat/Alfa group of cars seem to be pre-wired for it too.

I know for a fact that any Post 2002 156 has the wiring. The parts are about 70-100 quid and can be fitted in 10 minutes, no need to re-code anything either.

156 is based on the Fiat Stilo, another one to consider??

Smart cars had it as an option, I've not heard of anyone actually having it fitted though.

A lot of MINIs have them, adding the multi-function steering wheel for £200ish when new adds cruise control.

I think the Cooper is about group 8 insurance though, the MINI One or diesel variations might be a bit lower.

Cost me about £80 to fit it to my ibiza. It is a bit more involved than you make out, and can involve soldering into the ECU. You also need the full version of VAG-COM, not the free one, but there are loads of people on forums who will help you out.

For that matter, have you thought about a bass spec ibiza / arosa?

More or less all VAG cars have cruise control 'hidden' within them that can be activated and a stalk added for not much money.
