Last year i insured my BMW with Performance Direct, although it wasnt the cheapest quote i got at the time it was a well packaged quote. It was around £750 Fully Comp.

Anyhow the year goes past no problem, until time for renewal. The letter comes through with the next 12months quote, £1633. I have not claimed, 5 years no claims now etc. No points. I phone them up straight away to tell them not a chance.

I phone 3 times over a week but am met with the person dealing with your account will call you back can i take your number, i pass my mobile number on but never hear a thing. Until this morning. My new insurance pack has come through and they have taken £200 from my bank without asking and put that account overdrawn.. great!

I phone up again first thing, sorry the person dealing with your account doesnt start till 11am ill get him to call back. Well it got to 11:50am so i called them to be met with attude because i wasnt happy paying £1600 insurance for a 15year old car. So i cancel. Now they said yep we will refund your money.. in 7 days. GREAT!

I have just done a quote on the moneysupermarket for the same and come up with 53 quotes under £1000, cheapest being £330 and slowly rising from there. How can insurance companys just up the cost. Its so frustraiting, i now have no spendable cash for at least 7 days because they never called me back!.

That is a bit crap really. There's no excuse for them not to call you back. Premiums have increased over the last year or so. Generally about 7.5% - 11%. Alot of brokers and intermediaries who are not on the agregator sites such as go compare ect.. are finding it very hard to compete. Be careful of the terms when taking a policy from a comparison site to ensure the cover is good ( w/s courtesy car ect.. ) along with the terms. And make sure you know all the excesses

Did they take the money via direct debit? If so call your bank and ask them to return it under the d/d guarantee!

Didnt realise i could do that! Many thanks.

What makes me laugh is on moneysupermarket the Performance direct quote is coming up as £820. So it seems they treat new customers better than existing customers.

Make sure you stick to your guns with the bank, unfortunately most of the time neither do they...

I actually had to go down to a certain bank using a black horse as the logo, with a copy of the direct debit guarantee, and read it to the manager before he authorised a repayment where a finance company had taken two by mistake.

yep go to the bank and get them to take the money back.

If anything like that happens to me and I cancel my policy I always call the bank and put a block on said company from taking any money from my account.

I have just spoke to the bank and they are going to sort it no problem. 2 days they said it should take for the money to be paid back, so thats much better news.

Many thanks for your help, id have been sat here for another 5 days otherwise!

PH to the rescue again!

Regards.

They all tend to do that, introductory rates, new customer discounts etc etc.

I recently got a new car and was looking for quotes, I used one of the comparison sites and the quotes ranged from around £300 to £600, with one or two around £1000, and one of £10,000 + yikes

hehe

I was on a comparison site checking quotes for my TDCi Mondeo last year. Average quote was £300-400ish, one or two quoted over £12,000 per year.

I would have thought it would have been better for their computers not to release that quote at all, as it makes the company look incompetent. Mind you, there are probably people stupid enough out there to think that you get a better quality of insurance at that price... hehe

I see nothing out of the norm. Most insurance companies send you a renewal for an massively uncompetitive quote knowing that some people simply don't take any notice to shop around and just renew again. They will then automatically renew and take payment unless you decine it on the given date.

I don't agree with the way it works but that is life sadly.
