Picture Gallery - Toyobaru FT-86

Loads of new images of Toyota's rear-drive coupe concept

Toyota has been unusually forthcoming with advance material on the new FT-86 Concept car that makes its official debut at the Tokyo motor show next week.

To keep the excitement building, this series of studio pics hase been released, giving us the first close-up look at some of the FT-86’s more interesting details.

We could pick out some of the details we like the most, but we wouldn’t want to spoil your fun. Nice though, ain’t it?

God thats a good looking car! Think the lap-timer may be slightly optimistic, but still a really interesting feature!

The interior looks like a really nice place to be.

There's certainly a hint of 370Z about this. I like it. Would like to see a new, proper Supra though.

If they ever get round to putting some proper power in it (circa 300bhp) then I would be very interested. Should'nt be hard, just stick the new Impreza STI engine in there.

Does this replace the Celica or is it a different niche?

You can't buy a new Celica can you?

It's the only sporty coupe Toyota make, so it is what it is I guess.

Lap timer nothing new - My 1986 Uno Turbo had a stop watch built into the clock - down to 1/10 sec. Why? I don't know. I did actually use it though.

Liking the Toyota though ...

I suppose you could argue that in a way it's a replacement for the original Celica, which was a small, sporty RWD coupé with an emphasis on handling and good mileage.

But Toyota would prefer you to think of the AE86 which is a fashionable cult car amongst certain young buyers thanks largely to the japanese cartoon series Initial D.

I think it's shame that Toyota are ditching the old names - at least when Ford and Vauxhall did it, they came up with something better but Auris? FT86? Dull or what?

its the wall between the two seats and high placement of the handbrake that says TVR to me..
