Just found more info, the bus' brakes seem to have failed a little bit and there were only 19 cars damaged:

because he's on a level crossing and probably expected it to stop behind the cars. lucky he was alert and not texting or something

I'm hardly surprised at the lack of judgement from the pedestrian. You see morons like that every single day in London, just wanting to be run over. Amazing.
