What's Islington like? Safe parking?

Hi All,
I've been invited to a friend's 30th in Islington at the end of next month, (The Angelic then on to the O2 academy after).
Was going to drive down, but is it safe to park on the road round here? I will most likely be in the Maser, but if you guys tell me otherwise, I could always take the truck (landcruiser), which is a bit more discreet.
Anywhere nice to stay around here? Recommendations? Hotel with a car park would be good I guess....

I'm not sure HOW bad it is in context of getting keyed/nicked etc. Depends on what it is, plenty of OK motors (depends on exactly what area of Islington though) so unless it really stands out...I certainly would not use the Maserati, the Landcruiser I would have thought would be pretty safe.
What I WOULD be aware of is VERY over zealous parking wardens. Do not park a few inches outside a bay, do not park 1 minute over your allocated time, check (REALLY CHECK!) the restrictions as what is OK at 20:00 isn't necessarily the same as midnight and certainly won't be the same at 8am, let alone 10 am when you go to pick up the car to find it's been ticketed and/or impounded. Is it residential parking, always? when can public park there and so on. Good luck with that
Then there's the driving around a crappy area with lots of rubbish drivers and so on, personally I'm fine with that on the whole but wouldn't do it unless necessary.
Question, do you REALLY have to park there, can't you just get the train in? Or drive to satellite town and get train in at least.

I've just moved out of islington and know th places you mention, I'd recommend parking on St. John street (the islington end) as not only is it free but there are some big ass cameras as its just down from Upper Street. One of th residents has an RS6 and parks there no worries, also seen several Fezzas and a lambo parked there (outside my house) untouched, and used to park there as did my friends and family.
With regards to the person who mentioned getting shot, are you mad? Have you been to London much? Islington is a nice area, I lived there for a year and never felt unsafe even fell asleep on my doorstep (St. John Street) with my keys in the door and woke up hours later fine,haha!

Thanks guys, actually doesn't sound too bad really.
I'm afraid I have absolutely no idea about the good / bad areas of London, strangely having lived in this country all my life, I've actually spent longer in capital cities abroad than the capital in my own country.
I've asked mate if I can park at their house / flat / whatever, so it should be OK.
Didn't want to end up staying somewhere like Brixton, late at night, in the wrong car, having had a drink and unable to move it, etc....
