new job, so a new commute. Living in Dalston, new job is in Holborn - so shall I:

1) ride my road bike
2) get a cheap 125cc scooter
3) get the bus

bit worried about getting knocked off 1 or 2 but having commuted with the greast british public for a while I'm getting a bit fed up with it. Or if I invest in a new toy will I regret it and wish I was having a kip on the 242?

I live in Hackney. I don't have my car here as it would last 2 minutes. It's in storage at the mo, 10 miles away.

Scooter.

You won't spend half the winter with 'tube flu' and if you have your wits about you and some road sense it's not as dangerous as people think. My attitude was to generally ride like a lunatic and be past the obstacles before they knew you were there. If you cycle you will be sweaty and need a shower when you arrive at the office, plus it's slower than scooting.

Then ride to lock up and drive to work James May style. Easy.

4) Get a 125cc bike with a 'proper' gearbox. Not as desirable to chavs as a scooter, good practice if you want to go for a full bike licence (I'm assuming you only have a CBT), cheap for fuel and insurance and.........it's not a bus.

Drive to the point where you're 5 miles away and just stop there, get out and walk the rest.

It's OK if you're late, Government told you to do it so you have a note explaining it

A stealth scooter....in Dalston, the muggers won't hear you coming, what with their hoods up and everything.

I think it would be cool to commute on this, as opposed to using them at Le Mans....where everyone is drunk and throws things at you, or in the paddock, where we always forget to charge them and end up pushing them back!

Option 4: Sinclair C5 biggrin

During the summer I used one of mine to do a 10 mile round trip to work. No need to shower after as you have a motor to help your efforts. All the bks that was said when they came out about people not seeing you isn't true as riding one of these on the road is about as subtle as landing a harrier jump jet in your works car park! People just give you a wide birth and drive past tooting and smiling at you!
