New Pictures: Cadillac CTS Coupe

Sharp Caddy coupe revealed before December launch

The long-mooted Cadillac CTS Coupe has finally been revealed, ahead of its December launch at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The coupe was originally set for release back in May of this year, but turmoil at GM has delayed the car's launch until now. These pictures show a clear family resemblance to the CTS saloon, but the angular barge has been rather elegantly transformed into a sleeker (but no-less angular) coupé shape.

A slightly tweaked front end helps mark out the coupé and allows more space for enlarged vents for the front brakes. The high-waisted doors have abandoned conventional handles in favour of push-button jobbies, and round the back a neat twin-exit exhaust rounds off a re-styled rear bumper. The coupe is 2 inches shorter than the saloon in both height and length despite retaining the same wheelbase, probably losing the length with that truncated rump.

As standard the coupe will have the same 304bhp 3.4-litre V6 available with the CTS saloon. This isn't a bad prospect in itself, but nicer still would be the previously-rumoured 'CTS-V coupe' utilising the mega saloon's 6.2-litre LSA V8.

I just don't understand why people keep buying these. They should be called Fuglillac.

Having another large engined RWD coupe on the market can't be a bad thing.

The saloon looks great but not sure on the proportions with this coupe.

Why does "coupe" now seem to mean "huge arse". Same with the Merc CLC, lovely shape saloon spoiled with a ginormous rear.

Given that the CTS-V saloon is widely praised and has rather good handling, the likelihood is that this will be pretty good too. If they make the CTS-V Coupe too, well its relatively interesting but unfortunately not available in RHD.

Price / performance bargain to rival the Monaro / VXR!

Caddy are getting the hang of this handling lark. The CTS-V saloon according to Autocar:

But the Cadillac does confound a few preconceptions on a cross-country blast. With its magnetically self-adjusting dampers, the CTS-V copes well even on our poorly surfaced roads.

As you would expect of a car capable of 191mph in manual trim, the ride is firm, but the movements are nicely damped. And over crests and through compressions the body control is impressive.

There’s no hiding from the fact that the CTS-V is a large car with a big, front-mounted engine, but it does feel well tied down, with good grip and accurate steering.

It does look like a Primera from the back, but I cant help wondering who the hell thought that those wheels suited the car?
I like it but the wheels would have to be changed, but then I would never buy one anyways.

I have a soft spot for Cadillacs I dont know why, even the really st 90s one they released over here, and the CTS is something I would be tempted by.

Looking forward to seeing the V, quite a nice car actually.

Bout time US makers got a clue and learned how to make a half decent looking car, hope it handles well, which in theory it should.

and a 6.2 V8 in that is a great idea

Its a bit odd. It looks like it 'should' look good, but somehow just doesn't - like the Alfa Brera in my opinion. Odd proportions, nice front end, fat ar5e. Reminds me of a girl I used to know.

Pretty much a Chrysler Crossfire by another name perhaps?

Really like that. Different to the normal bland barges that everyone seems to be making now!

Nicely done cadillac smile
