Head units...

Recently bought an Alpine CD-103BT for the Saab which is great - MP3, USB, bluetooth and iPod (not that I have one).

Want another for the Mazda but can't afford to shell out another 200 quid...

There are loads of cheapy unbranded ones about that I imagine are rubbish, but can anybody recommend something that has USB & bluetooth that is reasonable to use/look out that I can get for under £100 (new or second hand)??

Look on Ebay. I bought Mrs Arese the CDE-103BT for £200 last year, then found one a couple of weeks ago on Ebay for my car for £120.

OT - Im one the verge of buying that 103-BTE headunit for my new car... Do you rate it?

I've always had Alpine, and Have Alpine + A parrot Ck3100 in my other car... so it appeals.

Does the Parrot side of things work well?

Is the mic in the fascia or a seperate unit on a wire?

It's a great unit. Like I say, bought one for her car and was so impressed I bought one for my car.

The Bluetooth mechanics are made by Parrot, so should be good. I call Mrs Arese every day when we're both in our seperate cars, and the conversation is generally perfectly audible. Her car has frameless doors, and I placed the mic (on a wire) in the a-pillar, so it sometimes picks up a bit of noise, but other than that it's great. Ideally, I'd wire the microphone into the central map-reading light cluster, but it's hard to get to.

They also have full Ipod control, so I can just leave it in the glovebox and control it from the head unit.

Agreed, very good and very easy to use. Only niggles were the blurb saying it worked with 3rd gen onwards iPods, but it's actually 5th onwards. Only have a 4th gen Other one is facia mounted USB socket, pain to have to remove every time I take the face off. Otherwise, perfect.

It's at work. I think it has a remote too. I know all manuals are there.

You can get them for under £150, or another similar one might do what you want for cheaper. Mine doesn't have bluetooth, but the rest of it works very well. I actually just plug a normal pen drive into it and leave it on random. It's great.

Not sure if that is what you are after?

Sounds great - but I can't see any USB connection on the specs? I prefer to use USB sticks to CDs these days...

Try and get an ex display model, i got one in new condition all boxed etc for 60 quid should have been 160, This was 3 years ago though.

Not so young! Got sick of scratched MP3 CDs and juggling discs at traffic lights. One 8GB memory card holds 100+ albums, doesn't get scratched and doesn't skip on crap road surfaces Thanks for looking anyway

i have an alpine cda-9847R with the ipod thing that goes in your glove box, im looking to shift it as i brought it in my 18yr old days and it doesnt really look very nice in my golf, i prefere the OEM look.

Id def sell it for under 100 if your interested.

I'm about to remove a Blaupunkt unit at work that has a changer and some lead that sits in the glove box. Let me check out what that lead does and I'll get back to you again.
