You know, where you used to get served by a spotty "oik" or old boy who would cheerfully take a chunk out of the paint as the nozzle was plunged in!

There must be younger drivers out there that have only ever known self serve!!

Yes, One in the village I live in!

Shite petrol and very expensive but the Attendant is still there, although it is usually the apprentice mechanic that does it

There are some. The village where mrs whatever's mum lives still has such a station. And mrs whatever used to work at another one in the same village, in her youth.

yep, one down the road from my house - a mechanical garage who do servicing, MoT's etc but also have the one fuel pump.

There's something very nostalgic about pulling up on the forecourt and instructing "fill 'er up"!

and they even give the windscreen a wipe over too!

Now that's service!

I lament the lack of pump attendants these days, so I carry one around with me in the boot.

Yes, the one in our vilage, Church Fenton, and down the road in Ullsekelf. Not horribly expensive but a bit dearer than the A64

There seem to be few around then. I haven`t come across one for years.

The last time I said "fill er up" was in 1976 when I was being flash in front of my friends - it was my moped and the cost (including a shot of 2 stroke oil) was 45p if I remember rightly

Back in the late 1970s my cousin took a summer job as a pump attendant.

One day a bloke pulled up in an ancient camper van and lifted the engine cover, as the filler cap was alongside the engine bay.

The bloke got back in his van, leaving my cousin to fill it up.

Being a bit of a novice, he took the filler cap off the rocker cover and proceeded to fill the engine up with four star.....

He realised his mistake after about a gallon had gone in. He then replaced the rocker box cap, removed the fuel cap and continued as if nothing had happened.

Unfortunately, he didn't have the balls to confess to the poor motorist, choosing simply to take the money and send the unfortunate sod on his way with a cheery wave...

The camper then pulled back onto the M61 and disappeared towards Manchester never to be seen again....

Platts of Marlow, Bucks. Not only is it attended but it sells real four star - yes, LEADED. The bad news is it's £1.00 a litre, or was last summer.
