Doh

Nearly did something similar. Popped into Ikea to pick up a couple of CD/DVD towers. Had the boxes touching the windscreen and still could not close the tailgate. They had packed the tall sides with other bits on the end so had to open the boxes and put the bits in seperately.

You're one of those people that turn up at Ikea, have a fun time buying a sofa, couple of wardrobes, dining table and six chairs and several pot plants only to be confused as to why it wont fit in your Fiat Panda / Ford Fiesta etc... ARENT YOU! wink

[ETA - oops again...not my day today, copy of the OP]

I became a victim of the stupid brigade this morning.

Decided to fix my bed (one of the wooden planks broken after a busy night) and decided a big peice of wood over the bed would fix it, so went down to B&Q in the tiny pug 206...and brought a great big peice of MDF...you can see where this is going.

Didn't realise until I got to the car AND opened the boot, then actually looked at what I was about to attempt to do. red faced and lots of laughs from the men in vans nearby tongue out

Even had a friend come down in a connect van and still no luck! (me on the right...not showing me bum!)

My man with the van had to leave at this point so I decided to have it split into two peices using the very good B&Q cut service...still no chance of getting into the pug.

I had to sit around the car park with these leaning against my car for 2 hours waiting for the friend with a van to come back frown

Daft question, and not much good to you now, but why didn't you just get them to cut them up again so they fitted?
rather than waste two hours in the car park?

Why not just buy a plank to replace the one you broke confused
Would have fit without a problem

Wanted to lay this over the whole of the bed so that it didn't happen again, spreading any weight over all the slats rather than just the on or two when sitting on the bed..also, know its not the best thing to do, but me or the gf end up standing on the bed to get things down off the shelving. Its a cheapo bed and so the wooden slats are not very strong.

Get yourselves either a Morris Minor or a MGB GT! that's the answer coffee

Bought a pair of bookcases and other stuff from IKEA, rolled up to MGB with a bloke smirking, open the hatch, drop the passenger seat, straight in! biggrin

Fast-forward 6 months back at Ikea to buy a Armchair and desk. Roll up to the 4 door Minor (MGB was needing a new spring), cue 2 blokes in a van shout over " it ain't gonna fit, son" (SON! rage)
Open the boot, pull out the back seat, push the passenger seat forward in goes the desk, place back seat squabs on top, then in with the armchair. tongue out Simples

I managed two get 3 of those Ikea Billy bookcases in my 205 couple of weeks ago. Missus in the back behind me, passenger seat folded forward and pushed up all the way, flat packs in diagonally, poking out of the sunroof.
And it didn't rain on the way home.

Excellent.

So next time you and the girlfriend 'jump on the bed', instead of one single slat breakign, and you going 'ooh whats that, a minor annoyance', carry on 'jumping'...

What will happen is the MDF will split right down the middle, and you will fall through the middle of the bed.

But then again - you probably didnt think of that did you hehe

haha, no the mdf is laid OVER the slats, this means any weight is spread out over all the slats not just one so individually they are weak but with all of them weight bearing they are more than strong enough.

People never done this before? its pretty much a common thing when beds break where I live!

can't see the OP but i have done a stupid thing re: DIY.

bought some lengths of 2x4, put them in the car but the only way they'd fit was with the back seat down with the wood over the top of the pass. seat [was only driving 1/2mile with it].

slammed the boot which hit the wood, which kicked up at the front, which cracked the windscreen.

was only a snotter and i was scrapping it that month thank god.

IIRC the slats are more comfortable due to the flex.

Got a large wardrobe stood up on the back seat of a Triumph Vitesse convertible - speed was a tad wind dependent!
