If you read carefully, I got a new one in black with red momo leather. And since it wasn't my fault, it was free of charge and I got to play with the MiTo for several weeks.

Then exactly a month ago I travelled to Belfast and bought a fully loaded 9-3 Aero with Hirsh upgrade for just over £5k; it's done over 2000 miles since I got it and so far it's been a joy to own.



Thanks to everyone who replied; it came down to a Cougar v6 or the Saab and the 9-3 won simply because I found a cracker within budget and distance (even though I had to travel from Aberdeen to Belfast).

Ended up buying a 54 plate VW Bora 1.9TDi Highline - the second VAG diesel I'd test driven.

Its a good car, and I'm very happy with what I've got. Its not an exciting car by any stretch of the imagination - but it is practical, and comfortable. Leather interior, cruise control, all electrics etc just mean its a fairly pleasant place to commute in. Granted, VW interiors aren't quite as nice as their Audi equivalent - but they're a big step up from the Vauxhall and Ford equivalents I've looked at. I do a motorway commute, and for that its faultless. Having a boot is a big advantage over a Golf/Leon - would need a roof rack for the odd trip to Ikea otherwise. Rear seat space isn't great (as to be expected for a mini-saloon) but I rarely use the back seats.

I've taken it for a bimble down the back roads a few times, and I realised that its not actually as fast as it feels - as others have said, the torque gives the impression of speed but I had a scare when having to abandon an overtake as it just didn't have as much grunt as I'd thought it did. Still more than enough to get past caravans/Micra's and anyone else doing <55 though. I won't say how fast it will go on a suitable stretch of open NSL country road, but I will say its certainly not sluggish - and I have had some fun finding that out.

Overall very happy - but has left me wanting to buy a second car so I can take advantage of some of the country lanes nearby. That was another thread, with the answer, "MX-5."

I asked whether I should get a 997, 575 or a 360...........

I went on to spend 20k on a TVR Griff 500

Decision based on many things - but the following are the headlines

1. 360 build quality was worse than the TVR by miles - just couldn't bring myself to buy one
2. 575 fantastic......but couldn't get what I wanted inside the budget....and I bottled it on running costs
3. 997 - didn't rock my world as I thought it would......and the TVR was bought and paid with the price of the deposit


Hadn't thought of a TVR.......wandered into a dealer as I was passing on a sunny weekend......it was stunning, fast and immaculate - oh, and reasonably priced!!

I probably started my what car thread in 2007, was alternating between HSV Clubsport R8, Mazda RX8, or Monaro.

Ended up buying the Monaro and it's been great, but now for sale.
