Tyres 'ZR' what does it mean please?
Discussion
ZR is the category of speed rating and none of the sites above are quite correct.
VR is for speeds up to 150mph and ZR when introduced was for speeds over 150mph. As car speeds got higher the manufacturers subdivided ZR into three groups: Y, W and the original Z. Read the manufacturer's handbook carefully to determine the recommended speed and load rating. Jonathan

hmm, my replies seem to be going amiss on the site this evening
Thanks for links and the info
I have ZR at the moment but was looking at W which are supposedly rated at 168MPH
which is more than my car achieve
is ZR a more comfortable (speed) safety margin?
At this point would you like to reveal the car in question? Esp were was the car manufactured in the ZR alone era or the w,y and z era? Thanks for links and the info

ZR is over 149mph.
I hate that. ZR is 150mph and over. VR covers 149.9 recurring.theres probably a fair bit leeway with these ratings i'd imagine, i doubt another 10mph over the rating would make any difference.

Sorry. I meant over 240kph.
Either way it's not anything to do with 150mph except for coincidentally being close.
I dare say the tyres are safe up to a significantly higher speed but I suspect driving on too low a speed rating would invalidate your insurance.
