Would they need help in these conditions?

Just thinking that an old lady in a small van may not be able to reach all their clients?

They featured MoW on Sky News. They were having to borrow 4x4s from volunteers.

My wife works for Reading social services as an OT so her department ensure that those in need recieve meals on wheels etc.

Anyway she was telling me that they have reciever lots of offers for assistance with deliveries from people in 4x4s but they've had to turn them down. Why? Because the people offering haven't had the correct criminal record background checks!

That doesn't surprise me in this culture.

I'll try to make contact, be nice if we could get a group together of 4x4's that coulod cover Crowborough. Use the proper 4x4's (Landrovers!) on the forest and soft roaders around the residential areas.

maybe if we are just driving someone else around (the delivery person) we can escape the red tape. Possibly a better option that a 90yr old Doris not getting her daily visit that ensures she is still breathing.

Found the numbers (as advised above)

•Hastings – phone: 01424 435336
•Hailsham – phone: 01323 848554

message left.

That's ridiculous - if nothing else they could simply drive the usual delivery people around so wouldn't need to come into contact with "customers".

Why reinvent the wheel? Contact your local 4x4 response network association.

Does sound odd.

Hemelhempstead area:
A meals on wheels service is calling on 4X4 drivers to help with deliveries suspended by the snow.
Volunteers who own 4X4 vehicles are needed to help deliver hot meals to elderly and vulnerable people.

The Dacorum Borough Council service was suspended for two days because of the extreme weather conditions.

If you can help please call 01442 228085

ETA: Gloucestershire County Council ask for help from 4x4 owners here
