Anyone own a VW Tiguan?

Morning all,

The opportunity has arisen for the O/H to get a company car, and she quite fancies a VW Tiguan.

Specifially, a 2.0 TDi 170 Sport.

I have absolutely no clue on these or their ilk, but are they any good?

I'm guessing the Ford Kuga will be a better steer, but she doesn't like the way it looks.

I'm guessing it'll be nicely built, nice to drive, and nice to live with. Mmmm, safe.

They get special deals on VWs on the scheme too, so that's a factor.

I'm trying to convice her that she doesn't need a mini-SUV but of course, she's swayed by the recent weather.

I'm trying to get her into a Golf Mk6 GTD. Same price on the scheme, but will cost less to tax i think...

The expense isn't really an issue as it's a CC.

I've tried the Golf GTD route, but she wants something which rides higher, gives a better view of the road etc. So, mini-SUVs it is.

VW Tiguan - current favourite
Ford Kuga - she doesn't like the look of it
Skoda Yeti - she says "but its a Skoda..."
Nissan Qashqai - her friend has one and she doesn't want to copy her
Audi Q5 - bit outside budget but may be a possibility
BMW X3 - Ugly ugly ugly ugly ugly.
Freelander 2 - Outside budget but she doesn't like the interior

Any others?

Of those i'd have the Landrover or the Skoda over the wigwam, which is a classic case of VW trading off the build quality myth

Has she considered the Kia Soul? I suppose not based on the Skoda comment!

I would guess that a Tiguan is perfectly competent for your wife's needs - it is a car designed for women who want that SUV feel but have no need for a dynamic driving experience or off road ability

Exactamundo.

I did suggest the Kia Soul as i think they look great. She loved the looks, but the engines are awful, and they're not that cheap to lease on a CC scheme because of the terrible residuals...

Volvo XC60 is very good indeed! My father in law bought one recently after we tested just about evey medium SUV available! my choice however would be the Mazda CX-7 as it has just been fitted with the 2.2 Diesel engine!

Has she seen one "in the flesh"? I saw one out and about earlier this week - it looked really good in silver and not at all like the stereotypical Skoda.

aren't there two sorts of tiguan or am i thinking of something else?

i'd go for an octavia scount personally.. (although i have an irrational liking of the qashqai so much so that i'd steer the missus that way. it's an appliance but somehow it's oddly appealing - i have no idea why).

Honda crv 2007 onwards. the 2.2cdti is a good engine and in ex spec has alot of kit for the money

She's not a fan of the looks of the Yeti either, which is a shame as i think its quite cool.

Just had an update from her, and she's coming round to the idea of a Qashqai, as for the same cost as the 2.0 170 Sport Tiguan, you can get a fully specced up Qashqai with xenons, leather, all the toys. A 2.0DCi Tekna 4x4, if that means anything to anyone.

Will investigate the X1, are they out yet?

Brisk - i know what you mean. The Qashqai, stupid name aside, is quite appealing:

Will be replacing the wife's lease Xsara Picasso in September. Nissan Qashqai is top of her list, way ahead of the rest. Lots of favourable reviews and loads of car for the money.

Have a test drive in a Tiguan - you might be surprised at how well they drive.

X1 is out (been out since last September).

Qashqai is awful. Great on paper, awful in real life. Ride quality is appalling.

Test driving the Tiguan and Qahqai tomorrow...

The X1. Almost the same size as the X3, bloody good onroad side and can be specced up to the max. Also comes with the latest iDrive which has to be seen to be believed; best in-car sat-nav/entertainment system by mies.

One of our customers wanted to lease a Tiguan last year but discovered that they were very small inside - he likened it to a Golf Estate. Budget wise look at X1s or possibly Q5s.

I have to say, the more we look at it, the more the Qashqai (God i'm tired of writing that out!) is coming out top.

The 2.0 DCi Tekna model has literally every extra possible. Full touch-screen satnav, full leather, panoramic sunroof, xenons, Bose stereo, 18" wheels, dual-zone climate etc etc.

The only options are metallic, and then some dealer fit chav accessories like chrome side-steps.

The Tiguan is still on the list though, it's a close 2nd (obviously this may all change after driving them).

I disagree. Certainly the X3 is taller (around 6 inches from memory) but it is neither significantly longer or wider. The only noticable difference is the boot; 420 vs 480 but hardly huge numbers.

Well, we've got one, an X3 that is, and we've decided not to buy an X1 because it's no-where near as big inside - leg room is tiny in comparison.....

Maybe that would tell you something?

...and being a real pedant, the X1 has less load space than a 3 Touring, while the X3 load space is only slightly smaller than the old X5 - 60l is more than you think
