I always get mildly erect when I see certain mustangs but Im never quite sure what the differences are (performances etc etc)
Conversely I see some that look utter pants.
WHich are worth owning and how much do they cost?

IMO pre-70 and post-05 are the ranges to look at. The 70s cars started to get a bit big and barge-like, the 80s and 90s were horrendously underpowered. The latest generation(s) are a bit retro (60s) but that's not a bad thing.

Ok, by modern i guess you mean the post-05 cars. Obviously only look at the V8s, ignore the V6s. Then you could speak to Roush or Saleen for some interesting options.

The GT is the proper one, then the special vehicle team (SVT) do the 'Cobra'

The model previous to this one there was a Cobra R as well.

Then there are various tuners who do specials and other sub variants.

I had a Cobra in the states, loved it, not especially dynamic but for what it was and what it cost it was ace.

I had a browse last night and there was the GT- but then there were a load of supercharged cars. Are they all aftermarketedly supercharged or even better variants of the GT?
How fast are they all?

The more I see that 'Eleanor' bodykit the more I hate it, especially when compared to a 'normal' Mustang - it just ruins the lines of the original car.

Of the modern Mustangs (post '05 I do like), I quite fancy a Bullitt Mustang. Yes, I know it's nothing more than a badging/marketing exercise, but the colour and wheels make it look rather nice (a supercharger wouldn't go amiss though):

I know, I know, but the one from the more recent 'Gone In 60 Seconds' is what 'da yoof' of today identify as Eleanor...

That's not a '69, it's a '67......and it was made purely for the film. The original, and much better looking GT500, looks like this.

And this is a '69

back to the OP, if you want a well sorted Mustang then Roush, Saleen or Steeda are all good. Or a GT500 if you want straight line speed with a good starting point for big power. The 5.4 engine in the GT500 is a bit of a boat anchor up front though, so if handling is a big factor then you should look at the supercharged offerings from Roush etc which are some 400lbs lighter.

If you want a great car for good money you'll probably struggle to do better than this one:

Elanor Mustangs look fking hideous. The only decent looking Mustangs are the original fastbacks and coupes. Everything from 1970 onwards looks terrible.
