All-New Porsche Cayenne Breaks Cover

Second-gen Porsche SUV revealed ahead of Geneva debut

This is the all-new Porsche Cayenne, which makes its debut at the Geneva motor show next week.

The second-generation Cayenne is lighter, more efficient, features a hybrid powertrain as an option for the first time, and (Porsche no doubt hopes) is a sleeker-looking piece of kit.

Although the new Cayenne is 48mm longer than its direct predecessor - and sits on a 40mm longer wheelbase - the car's weight has been slashed (by 180kgs in the case of the Cayenne S.

The five-tier model range starts with the 296bhp 3.6-litre V6. Next up is the Cayenne Diesel, whose 237bhp, 405lb ft V6 turbodiesel is now 20 per cent more efficient with combined fuel consumption up to 38.4mpg.

The two V8 models are also back, with the naturally aspirated 4.8-litre S getting 395bhp and the twin-turbo version getting 493bhp. Interestingly, the Turbo's fuel consumption actually betters the S's, with 27.6mpg playing 26.9mpg.

The biggest news for the new Cayenne is the introduction of the hybrid model. The Cayenne S Hybrid combines a 328bhp 3.0-litre supercharged V6 with a 46bhp electric motor. Both the electric and petrol motors can operate the vehicle independently (electric-only drive works at up to 40mph), but combine to give a maximum of 375bhp and428lb ft of torque.

The new Cayenne will hit UK showrooms on 29 May, priced from £41,404 for the basic V6 petrol and running up to £81,589 for the full-house Turbo.

Good effort!

Now let's see if they can demonstrate the same level of progress with the 997>998.

I won't be buying one but in fariness, they have made a silk purse out of a sow's ear with this update IMO.

If a car had nipples, Porsche would tweak them.

Got to give it to Porsche. I didn't think they could make the Cayenne any uglier but they did.

Bravo clap

I will never like this vehicle, but I have to say they've done some effort stylingwise.

i'm generally a porsche fan, love the boxster, cayman and 911, but this is absolutely hideous IMO.

I like it, much better looking than the old model.

Was hoping for a mid 30k entry model... but ho hum.

At long last they replaced it, I hated the original Cayenne, it was FUGLY to the max. The orignal oneit looks as though they had just lift the styling of the original Porsche Boxter and just made it bigger.
This now looks a car of its own, the front and rear ends look ok, the side isnt the best, but ok.

I won't buy one, but I quite like it. With a range of engines to suit different needs I think this will broaden it's appeal.

Good to see they've kept the beasty V8 as well.

I think it looks great. I still wouldn't buy one over a Range Rover, but a huge improvement nonetheless.
