Geneva: Gumpert Apollo Goes Into Orbit
Hard-as-nails German racer for the road gets more power, more attitude. And LED running lights
With a proper sod-off diffuser, full-width rear wing, a serious smattering of aerofoil winglets and at least 750bhp (though the company representative talked breezily of 850bhp and 656lb ft of torque for the car on the stand), the new Gumpert Apollo Sport has the sort of mad dog demeanour that would make you think twice about giving it a funny look, let alone taking it for a quick thrap round the Nordschleife.
It would be quick though. The 700bhp version recently completed a lap in 7.24; that's 8 seconds quicker than a Porsche Carrera GT. Which must make the Apollo Sport the ultimate, hardcore, no-frills trackday supercar with LED daytime running lights.
Discussion
What has not been mentioned is that the new cars also have F1 shift now raher than the large sequential lever they had before.
The car is also built and does comply with FIA regs i believe. You can this racing as is.
Great car and privilaged to have spent some time in the 700hp version
