Video: Audi Spyder Goes Underground

DTM pilot Mattias Ekstrom in weirdly-dubbed The Driver remake...

Since viral marketing is supposed to be 'cool', we're not sure what possessed the makers of this little classic to over-dub the original soundtrack with the help of a couple of throwbacks to a 1950s public information film. Or perhaps the Germans have just discovered irony, in which case we still don't get it!

Either way, there's some fun footage to watch as Audi's DTM racer Mattias Ekstrom gets to grips with the new R8 Spyder in an underground car park - the scenes are 'sort-of' reminiscent of classic movie The Driver, but with added flames...

I've got it on my iPhone, love it, has the same feel to the original! Shame you can't cheat on the iphone to turn cops & damage off without finishing the game hehe

Why does it look like there is a propane torch burning inside the exhausts? Surely they have not fitted some kind of flamer kit?!

I think I've just witnessed two grown men ....falling in love with one another....

...now I've been picky whilst looking for a decent space in a multistory before, but this guy's ridiculous! Park the damn thing and go share a latte you loved up goof balls!

Seriously, this car is part banal and part pretty cool. Cool in the sense that it's well put together, reliable and bloody quick. You just don't get the sense of presence or occasion the Gallardo offers. I guess that's the point really, one for the maturing banker who likes his quiet time.

I sincerely hope that video was not done by the same team that do Audi's recent TV ads because that was God-awful, where as I think their TV ads are very clever. And surely Mattias would have got bored of going round and round (and round!) for the camera after only a few minutes - it didn't look particularly challenging for someone like him.

Christ, get a room.

I can't even hear the audio (no speakers on work pc) and the gay overtones were still obvious.

Probably a childish question this, but is there anything cooler than a car that spits flames? And I mean genuine ones not flamer kits.

The Audi message here is that if youre an older man take a younger man to car park and let him drive your R8.

filthy doggers.

That video's amazing! It'd be total crap if it wasn't for the hilarious dubbing though. What were they thinking? Lets make a dreadful video of a poo-chunk coloured R8 in a multi-storey, then we'll dub it very, very badly. But, we must also make sure we get the two most awful voice over guys we can find and make them sound ever so slightly homosexual. Oh, and they should also remember to mention coops. Every car enthusaist appreciates a nice hen house, so don't forget the hens. Hahaha, durrr.
