In contrast to the other thread about getting told you are a faggot who drives a st car when out and about, how about positive comments you've received?

Me personally, I get a lot of stick for driving an Alfa 147, the usual st but I know they're only joking at work, but at the same time, when giving people lifts, they are usually surprised by the interior, it's not what you expect getting into a hatchback etc.

On the otherhand, I was interested in buying a CL500 but petrol prices were sky high and large engined cars were selling cheap. I saw a guy outside PC World in a gold coloured CL500. st colour but still a nice car. He was loading a 42" LG TV into the boot and struggling. I just approached and told him it was a nice car, I was thinking of getting one etc. He didn't say a word and made a B-line for the front of the car and removed the keys and ushered me off as he was a Maharaja.

fking Prick!

Anyone got any better stories?

Often when I see cars that I like, I think about offering some sort of complement, but then I get the feeling that if I did, they would think I was a bit of a tool.

How does one best offer a compliment/recognition without appearing like a silly juvenile?

Does a simple thumbs up advocate the correct connotations?

I've had a few "nice car" comments when out and about in my MX-5. smile

If i'm at a car show, i'll compliment and usually have a chat, but I never do on a petrol forecourt or car park etc.

My car seems to get a fair few positive comments, which is bizarre considering its a barely above average condition r reg twin spark gtv, not even a v6!

Was forced to compliment a person down my roads car, an absolutely 100% pristine beautiful red gt6, it looked ready to win a concours competition. When I returned from my wandering to the shops it had actually attracted a few more people who were admiring it.

I once got told the 340R was 'totally off the hook' by something wearing a hood. I have no idea if this was a compliment or not.

When I see a car I like I'll usually look at it for a while whilst passing and/or nod/smile knowingly or give a thumbs up. Example yesterday in the supermarket carpark, new Land Rover Discovery 4, looking at it as I walked by, noticed the driver still sitting in it, gave a thumbs up, driver smiled and nodded.

That is a compliment as I understand it.

I too was toying with the idea of a CL500 and approached a chap parked on a side street in a 500. He was very helpful, gave me quite a bit of info on CLs in general, what to watch out for, what not to worry about etc. Top bloke smile

If I see a car I like/appreciate, I generally give 'em the thumbs up.

Maybe i've just been lucky or live in the right area but both of my current cars have received positive comments in petrol stations over the years .

A lot of people seem to want to talk about the little mk1 Golf and ask questions whereas the Supra attracts a different type of person , usually younger guys always asking "Is it the turbo" - "How fast is it" etc .

Im always more than willing to talk to people about cars and if i spot something i like im not worried about commenting or admiring it .

My wife's E60 M5 Touring had 'Sick' written on the back of it which I take as 'that's a very nice car you're driving there pretty lady'

The Ultima always gets comments and most are positive!

Funny enough today on the M6 near Coventry I saw a new green clio sport thingy and gave the guy a thumbup

Always talking to people about their cars in service stations too (if they drive something interesting) although my wife got upset when I told a lovely looking blonde woman her Aston Martin looked cool.

I would have thought your natural humility would convince people that you are not a tt.

Dyslexic, should read "people call me a tt but hey I'm dreaming about cars people who are loaded, but couldn't give a flying st about me, are in. Was almost knocked over by a Phantom he he"
