I have sold one of my vehicles, a person in spain is buying it.

The payment and everything will be sorted beforehand (CHAPS) and the vehcile will be collected by a logistics company once payment has cleared in my bank, so thats all sorted.

Thing I dont fully understand, as is not explained very well on the V5 - hopefully someone here can help

1) V5 has a "Notification of export" section, as the buyer may not be attending, do I just fill in the new keeps suppliment with the details, or just send that section off to the DVLA?

2) In terms of sale receipt, do I just get it signed by the courier saying with it amended to say "Payment settled, recieved by courier?

3) Any other things I need to do legally / receiptwise?

Bend over?

You do realise that your bank will just reverse this after the funds have "cleared" don't you? (Usually quite some time afterward).

This has scam written all over it.

Let me clarify -

1) The vehicle is rare, it is not currently being sold, there is only one other being sold at the moment up in Scotland. You can't even buy parts as only a couple of thousand were made worldwide. There are roughly 300 in europe or less that are running.

2) The buyer is an enthusiast of this vehicle, like myself. They know what this is. They are paying the full amount by CHAPS payment, and I have confirmed with my bank manager at Lloyds that the payment, once cleared in my account, is irreversible. If they do not pay, the vehicle is not being released, and will go to the next highest bidder. Very simple.

3) The vehicle will be collected at the buyers cost by courier after the full payment has cleared into my account.

So once everyone has finished posting the boring unoriginal nigerian pictures up, I would be most grateful if someone could answer the original question.

And yes, I will certainly post back when the transaction completes successfully.

The main question was, lest it get lost in the hillarity of the thread so far, as the buyer will not be present due to the courier aspect, what is the best way to sort out the receipt, and do I just fill out the export section of the V5?

Many thanks

You do realise that your bank will just reverse this after the funds have "cleared" don't you? (Usually quite some time afterward). How does that work then? I recently paid an amount to the wrong account, I called the bank concerned and they essentially told me to fk off as there was nothing they could/would do!

This has scam written all over it.

Chaps is not reversible - Lloyds confirmed this in writing.

French guy wants to buy my TVR. I've spoken to him on the phone, seems genuine, and I told him I will not be parting with my bank details under any circumstances. Assuming he confirms his flight from Paris I will meet him off the plane tomorrow evening. Says he will pay by Paypal and expects to take the car away as soon as the money shows in my Paypal account. I'm very nervous about all this. Can anybody see any problems?

I actually turned my one away, not for any reasons of being dodgy, but after speaking to him on the phone it turned out that the specs of my vehicle were not what he was looking for.

Personally, I would accept CHAPS transfer or cash on collection only. Paypal is too easy to dispute and ebay usually sides with the buyer.

DO NOT TAKE PAYPAL.

Their disputes process is heavily biased towards the buyer....you WILL get screwed.
