I've heard that the iPod can suffer from poor batteries - I've heard testament that it only lasts 4-6 hours really.

Blue for me, silver for Mrs Puggit - we're going to NY in March and will return with our natty electronic music players.

Didn't like the gold - too :bling:

Didn't get one myself, as I got too impatient.

They are $249 here, or £140 (inc tax). I've already ordered one for my brother for his birthday.

One other thing which put me off was the 4Gb capacity. I have 12Gb music on my computer, and didn't like the thought of cutting this down on the iPod.

I recently looked at all tracks I have actually played, though, and it's under 1000, so teh mini would fit them all on.

Chap at work is in 't States this week, he's already coming back with 5 mini iPods

Hope he doesn't get stopped on the way back, I wonder if C&E stop people more frequently when the exchange rate is as favourable as it is now

I buy from the apple store.

Seems with apple that you only save a pound or two if you go with a dodgy dealer.

I bought a 40 gig ipod 3 weeks ago from Dixons duty free. Got home to England a week later to find it DOA. Went into Dixons in London to get it exchanged. 'Sorry sir you'll have to keep coming and checking in for a replacement as we don't have any stock and can't be arsed to call you/sort it out etc'.

wicked.

Anyway I obviously didn't accept that level of fobbing, but despite trying to escalate it within the company etc, they are so institutionally incompetent that the best I've managed is for the store to call me when the damn things come in. Dixons won't even ship items between branches the wasters. Never dealt with a bigger bunch of arsehats in my life.

Anyway ETA to new ipod >2 weeks. Oh also apparently Dixons is pissed off with launch of mini IPod as they can't get any stock etc....

Got my ipod mini last friday (queued at the Apple Store in Manhattan - how sad is that!). It's in blue and the colour is not as bright as it looks in the adverts.

It's my first ipod and I love. It's a tactile delight with the thumb wheel and easy navigation making it a joy to use. Sound quality is decent though not on a par with a CD walkman. Sometimes the bass seems to be lacking or overly distorted but overall clarity is excellent.

Also got the iTrip with it and that seems to work very well although I haven't yet been able to load the associated software that will allow me to change frequencies on it.

The only two real issues are the limited memory and battery life. For me, 4gb is plenty, I'm halfway through filling it and have over 550 tracks on it, many of which will go once I've been reminded why they sat at the back of my CD rack for so long.

The battery is more of a problem. 6hours would be more accurate and I will be buying an add on pack when available as it struggled to last the flight back to the UK. Turning off the backlight helps but you need to navigate through the menu's to switch it back on again which, guess what, is pretty tricky in the dark! A physical switch on the side would make more sense.

Overall, it has changed the way I listen to music, is a desirable gadget and feels built to last, all in, a definite thumbs up.

Chris

PS - I'll add this to the reviews page
