Before the riots start, I know that there is far more to defining a performance car than the above criteria, but I was just wondering about the general stats of the average PH'er.

If this poll was conducted of the general public, I'd suspect that 90% would be in the last category, but I would guess that PH would be around the 40% mark. So, let's see...

I'm answering (a) on the basis that 5.x counts, and if you think otherwise you must have a pretty skewed idea of what constitutes a performance car!

Actually I could answer (c) if the Legacy had the Jap 180km/h limiter removed... MX5 does but redline in 5th calculates at 133mph wink

Where's the option for having more than one car that can do both? wink

Those criteria seem to describe a particular kind of performance car - ie a modern one designed to be particularly 'competitive'.

I can think of several, much slower sports cars, quick saloons, hot hatches and rally cars that post times nowhere near those but are nothing but out-and-out 'performance cars'.

I wasn't actually. Many top end rep mobiles and some diesels these days will do a 5 point something 0-60 dash, but on thinkiong about it, I suppose 5.5 would cut it.

OK, to clarify - round it to the nearest whole number using normal mathematical practice (i.e. 5.4 counts, 5.5 doesn't)

wink

Factory figures for mine see 0-60 in 5seconds flat, but it's limited to 112mph (Jap import) so I have no idea on top end. I suspect around 140ish due the gearing.

yes
That counts..

(especially as I have driven more than one supposedly 155mph-limited car at a higher (verified) speed.)

Does a C1 count? It can do 100mph. With a long run up. And a tail wind. And the back seats folded down.

I don't do full bore standing starts, and I've never got close to 155 in the UK, so those particular stats don't appeal to me and I'd never buy a car to tick those boxes. If a certain car appealed in other ways and happened to have those attributes then so be it, but I have my eye on other cars that still can't do either (ignoring the fact that my daily is a 3-pot diesel, LOL!)

So can I, but may I refer you to my opening gambit...

I was going to use the term 'sports car', but I thought this would be a safer can of worms to open...

Thanks for your contribution, but just tick the box and shut up. wink

My car can't do either according to the figures (never do 0-60 runs in it) but I'd still regard a Lotus Elise as a performance car.

Hmmmm, it's definitely a sports car, not sure about performance car (maybe, but not on my (admittedly limited) criteria defined above)

Oh balls - that'll be the can of worms opened wobble

Most of the rally-reps will do mid 5s (wet or dry) and you'd have to be pretty blinkered to try and exclude those while including the collection of 2 ton luxo-barges that will do 155mph.

Or a different example, my 280bhp MX5 probably wouldn't have the traction to crack 6s with the tyres currently on it, and is rev/gearing limited to 133mph. So according to you its less of a performance car than say a BMW 740, despite having a similar power/weight ratio to a 996 turbo?

Sorry, IMO your criteria fails. But its your thread so don't mind me!

Can do both smile, original specifications say 153mph, but the GPS has said differently on a few occasions (on an airfield before anyone starts).

I like his criteria as it puts me in an exclusive club. An mx-5 with 40000bhp can never be classed as a performance car in stock sense, I like to think of this as stock cars that are high in performance

Miss both, one by 4.8 seconds, and the other by 35mph. frown
