I was planning on saying something like "why the hell get a diesel that's only going to do 30mpg, might as well get a petrol, etc etc" but then i looked it up and apparently the 635d does 40mpg combined.

Does it 'eck, though, Shirley? I get about 45mpg out of the 123d, which is quarter of a tonne lighter, and 2 fewer cylinders.

So; why the hell get a diesel that's only going to do 30mpg, might as well get a petrol? (etc etc)

God, you pair are as bad as the wife.

If there's a handbag in John Lewis and it's only £150 because they are doing £50 off, so it's a bargain, that is NOT the same as someone giving you £50. It really isn't.

How long do the x35 engines take to bed in? Will you really achieve the combined 40mpg in your 24k miles of ownership?

I'd a 535d with the same engine as this and it did around 37mpg on average. easily did 42mpg on long runs.

No-one said it was.

You're leasing a 635d Convertible for the price of a 320d Convertible.

Cant see a problem. I was getting 37mpg after about 3000 miles in my LCI 535d which has the same engine.

Loving your logic. The diesel one cant possibly do 40mpg so it must be doing 30mpg, so get a petrol one instead.

Classic.

Personally I think its an awesome deal for an awesome car. It's just a pity its for business users as I would have bit their hands off, having spent the past 3 months looking to buy a 645 / 650 for 20k I have given up as they have all been dogs. Enjoy your new 635d, both of you.
