Anyone got any experience of after market warranties?
Discussion
Hi,
Not for me - my parents are looking at buying an 06 plate Astra Estate from Bristol Street Motors in Lichfield and have been offered a 3 year warranty at a cost of £599. I'm just in the process of finding out what's actually covered as I've never had a warranty on a second hand car, only new ones, but has anyone got any experience of either Bristol Street Motors, their warranties or any after-market warranties? Could anyone make a recommendation of anyone else to purchase a warranty from? I'm not sure they'll need one, but it'll give my dear old mom peace of mind.
It may be a good deal, it might not be worth the paper it's written on, but I'd like to find out either way if I can.
Cheers

Firstly call the dealer....find out who the 3rd party warranty is with and then go to their website and read the small print online.
I have one with the AA on my Porsche 911 , one claim during the year so far - faulty sensor needed replacing.....and it was all sorted without any fuss.
Cheers,
Nick

I listened in to a very funnyfrustrating telephone conversation between (any event that occurs every 4 years, the next time in London) warrenties and my brother. An oil pump failure was suspected and Audi had said it was a sealed unit.
The chap on the end of the phone said the unit needed to be taken apart and fixed as the warrenty would not cover a new part despite it not being in the list of parts NOT covered. We kept telling him what a sealed unit meant and he could not understnd it could not be taken apart and put back together again! From our experience, Ol****c warrenties are full of idiots who do not really have a clue about cars and their 'cover' is just crap.

Just had a quick look and they want £350 for just 12 months, seems a bit pricey to me.I've just tried to find details on the AA warranties, but can't seem to find anything on their site, will maybe give them a call unless anyone can point me in the right direction?

I bet being forced to do that stung a bit!I have a dealer supplied warrantee with Carcare Plan, they have approved payment for an ECU on my 02 X5. Seem knowledgable and helpful on the phone. Wont pay the £55 diagnostic but the rest of the bill is £835 so I am pretty happy with that. They sent an engineer to the repairer to make sure he wasnt taking liberties too.

Thanks for the replies guys.
The warranty offered seems to cover anything mechanical and electrical that wouldn't be consumable or a wear and tear type item, so seems ok for the money to me.
Anything else that crops up for them I can do myself within a few hours and parts are pretty cheap for Vauxhalls.
