I have my Accord up for sale, it has to go by the time I get my replacement car in a week or so.

So far I've had 2 enquiries here's one:

Scammer said:
Hello Lou,
Thanks for the information and sorry for the delay,I am located in England.Sorry i can't make over to veiw because of the nature of my job.The offer is okay by me for £1,200 I would like you to ignore other offers and hold it for me and I will offer you an extra £100 only if you can keep it for me and I will come for the pickup or I send my Freight Agent. I do not want you to be stressed, so id rather sends my Freight Agent to your location for pickup. Please give the information i have requested in order to make the payment:

(1)Cheque payable to:
(2)Home Address:
(3)State:
(4)Post code:
(5)Country:
(6)Telephone number/mobile phone:

Payment will be sent to you immediately i get the above details. You should be expecting a UK Bank Draft for £4,999 including the shipping fee to cover the shipping expenses on me because i still have other pick up in Surrey. The reason is being that i couldn't issue out a separate cheque's on a single transaction like this due to my company policy, as soon as the cheque clears in your bank, you will deduct your money including the £100 as compensation to hold the car, then the rest would be sent to my freight for the pickup in your location. I hope I can trust you with my rest balance to arrange for my freight.

Thanks,

Lisa
The other was from a guy who was going to drive 3hrs cross-country to buy a £1200 car. He had to come yesterday as, according to astrology, the next 3 weeks are a bad time to buy anything. He couldn't give me cash, as he didn't have time to go to the bank, but was happy to do a bank transfer once he'd seen the car!

All I can say is that the "website that buys car's" offer is looking very appealing. I don't have to deal with scammers and eejits and by the time I reclaim my 10 months of tax I'll be within a few quid of the private sale price anyway.

Just ignore blatant scams?
That's what I did.

Yeah, I know. But it's annoying when you get the first mail, leading you to believe there's an interested buyer, only to get the scam mail later.

I only respond to the enquiries I deem worthwhile. Anyone else just gets ignored.

1. Never be in a hurry to sell your car, that way you can hold out for your price.

2. Price it realistically, I once had a kit car for sale at £6950 for over two months. I reduced it to £6500 and the phone never stopped ringing..sold within two days...

3. Don't stay in especially for viewers, they rarely turn up, arrange a time when you know you will be in anyway, so if they don't show you have not lost anything. Once I stayed in especially on a Sunday afternoon for a guy who said he was travelling 150 miles...He even phoned me to say he was setting off in five minutes.....Never showed up.

4. Always be prepared to haggle, (even if it's only £50, providing they have the cash with them)

5. Don't expect to sell your car in two/three days unless it's a give away bargain.....dealers don't.......

Thanks for the tips.

I think it's priced realistically, only a few hundred above the wbac.com price.

Sadly, it does need to go soon, I'm getting a new car and don't want to have to insure 2.

As said, always be willing to haggle (a little)

Its buying/selling psychology - even if it is fairly priced, you need to give the buyer the satisfaction that they got a deal. Even if it's £50, or filling it up with fuel - it seals a deal and creates the right positive sale.

And ignore the scammers / have a look at http://www.419eater.com/ or http://www.scambuster419.co.uk/

Perhaps he is trying to establish communication with the seller and see if you are the real seller or a scammer??

Quite! Scamming does work both ways I suppose.

Sold.

Took it to the guy who does my servicing and sold it to him for £1350 without any hassle. Considering WBAC.com dropped their offer to £850 I'm satisfied with the result.

I don't think I'll ever try and sell a car around this price on PH or Gumtree again, too many morons about.
