I've a quick question..

How does selling a car work?

It sounds abit stupid, but I've not sold a car before. I will only have the funds for the new car, when current car sells so hopefully it'll sell quick.

But what about insurance?

I don't want to be with the same insurer on the 'new' car I haven't got yet, so will need to cancel the current policy, but still need insurance on the C2 until its sold I assume..

Does anyone have any hints on selling it.. Very clean, good write up, where is good places to advertise it except here?

Many thanks smile

Look for ads selling a car the same as yours. Take what you can from the better ads to make your own.

Autotrader is good for results, ebay is popular but can be hard work

Just sold a car via ebay (because I wasn't sure how to value it/what it was worth) and another one via PH/carandclassic.com and classiccarsforsale. If its a less specialist car (C2 I think you said) then autotrader seems the obvious place to start as well as a more local website like Gumtree or Trade It (which is very effective in the Bristol area)

Both worked really well but the key thing is a thorough description, with as few spelling errors etc. as possible and some good photos taken in good light when the car is clean. Front, back, side, interior and engine bay is pretty standard but some people really go to town.

Absolutely, agree it's all in the advert. I will not buy from someone with lots of spelling mistakes and lack of punctuation etc.

Maybe I've lost out on some good deals in the past, but the way I figure it is if someone can't be bothered to spend ten minutes writing a decent advert and taking care over it, how much care have they taken of the car!?

I agree.

I scan the advert, if it looks good, I'll read the whole thing, if it doesn't, I'll just move to the next one.

I've put all the bits I had for the C2 for sale this morning, and sold all but 1 so it's going well so far.

Just need a little extra help please!

C2 insurance is £350 per month, and comes out on 16th of each month..

I need to sell the C2, to buy the MX5 (I don't need to worry about a car inbetween as I can get one from work to use for a few days) but obviously if I don't sell the C2 before the 16th I'll have to pay another £350 for insurance which to me seems a waste of money.

So how do I do it?

Cancel the insurance on the C2 and just sit it on the drive until its sold, and do it like that? Or will I just have to pay the £350 even if I sell the car 2 days later as I don't think you can refund monthly insurance can you?

Your insurance company will more than likely refund your money on a pro-rata basis (minus an 'admin fee'). For example, at £11.50 (ish) per day insurance, if you sell the car after 10 days they should refund you around £230 for the rest of the month.....minus a fee of about £30 you should get around £200 back. However every insurance policy is slightly different and you should read your small print to confirm.

Don't cancel your insurance though - if it gets stolen before you lose everything.....and when someone comes to test drive it you'll be driving without insurance so I'd keep the insurance active.

Insurance on a C2 costs your £4,200 a year? It's probably not worth too much more than that is it?

Okay, thanks! Will do that. Just would have rather not have to pay another £350 this month when I hopefully will have got rid of it smile

Yeah, unfortunately.. Its because when it was renewed last year they had a claim going through from a woman driving into me, when it was finalised in February this year (Not against me) they said that £4200 was the cheapest they can do it for eek

No the car is only worth £3500 hehe

Leave the c2 insurance running, and switch to the mx5 when it arrives.

C. O. A. B.

It's a weird old world when someone can be happy to pay that kind of money to insure those cars.

Presumably, OP, you're either living with your parents or you have a very well paid job. I earn a decent salary and I'm not happy paying £300 for my diesel hatchback.

The idea of paying that kind of cash for insurance makes me want to have a lie down.

Not that it matters now as you have kinda switched.

Still £2100 is sh*t loads more than I'd want to spend but its your money and critiquing your spending wasnt what you came here for.

What he hasn't mentioned is that it's running a Veyron engine wink

To be fair that's probably the most expensive insurance I've ever heard of, I'd rather walk than pay that!
