Did anybody see Traffic Cops on BBC1 last night? (14/04/2010)

There was an incident involving a Police vehicle responding to an emergency - and a red Renault Clio.

I felt that the officer concerned had sufficient time to avoid contact with the Clio - but it didn't look as though he made any attempt to do so?

Here is a link to the BBC iPlayer version of the program - watch from 2m 45s and see what you think?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006zygp

You'll note that the office took the preceding bend on the left hand side of the road, and upon approaching the Clio was gradually making his way back to the right hand side of the road - however, the Clio was indicating to change lanes.

See what you think anyway.

Not just that, but what about the Irish guy with the flat tyre. Yes he was in the wrong, but the Police officer who dealt with it was a complete power mad cock.

Welsh traffic cops seem like a right bunch of divs.

To be fair the guy driving was being an total a**e. I got the feeling if had accepted it was a stupid thing to be doing the cop would have let him leave it by the road and get it the next day without getting it towed.

I thought just the opposite actually, the lad argued himself out of a warning IMO, just wtf is to be gained from arguing with a trafpol? still I hope people like him carry on, it makes it all the easier for me if I get pulled for something.

He pulled out in front of a police car with it's siren going. How can it not be his fault?

Exactly, if the lad hadn't been such an arrogant know all st he would have got much less hassle. Re:the Clio, i thought for someone with his training he reacted very badly, you could see the car was starting to move lanes & then indicated. I suppose easy to say sitting on your chair seeing what the camera saw.....

The Clio signalled and pulled out at exactly the same time.

The Clio driver had plenty of time to see (and probably hear the police car) if he were to check his mirrors like you are supposed to.

If the police car had slammed the anchors on immediatley he'd have probably ran into the back of the Clio.

Therefore it's the Clio's fault.

I missed the end of the program. What happened to the Clio driver? Ban and fine for driving with no insurance?

I still reckon the guy in the clio should have seen/heard the Police car. Probably like the majority who don't use mirrors.
The system of car control should be emphasized far more on the driving test IMO.

ETA

I have never condoned police burality, but in the case of that Irish guy, I'd make and exception.......'tard.

Two lanes, Clio established in left hand lane, police car established in right hand lane. Clio pulls into right hand lane (although not clear why that was, as the left hand lane remained clear). Clio driver failed to check that the right hand lane was clear before starting the move. Clio driver 100% at fault.

Hard to judge from the film but when I first saw the Clio I thought it looked like an accident waiting to happen. The officer was responding to a call though, he wasn't really in a position to be hanging around to anticipate what every driver he passes might foolishly do.

I lost the small amount of sympathy I had for the lad when it turned out he was driving without insurance.

lol quickly looked...

he claimed he didnt see the coppa because his mirror wasnt in place...

yet if you watch the collision back, you can see that it was.. it was the collision that knocked it out.. obviously.

anyway.. uninsured driver = automatically at fault imo

Poor excuse, even if he wasn't lying is it not a legal requirement to have a drivers side mirror?

If your arrogant enough to wave the "Irish licence, you cannot do me" in the cops face then you get all you deserve.
If he had kept his mouth shut then would not have been the same outcome.

"you know nothing about cars"
"OK, then I will take the car away to show it to someone who does!"

I'm not trying to apportion blame..

I just felt that the officer had enough time to react, to avoid the collision?

However - I wasn't there, have no idea exactly what speed he was doing, and I gather conditions were damp (both vehicles had wipers on) - but somehow I still think the incident could have been avoided.

I don't deny the Clio driver was at fault. As I pointed out in my other posts - I felt the incident could have been avoided. After all, the officer concerned should be a highly trained competent driver, not so?

I would agree. I've been in similar situations where the positioning of their car gives it away, when i first watched it i had the same feelings. Second guessing numpties is part of driving. However, what wasn't clear was how fast he was going, in any case, how the fk do you miss a car with blues & twos going. Unlucky Clio driver but driving without insurance? You are a tt!
