I've just got myself an spl meter. Decided to go for a drive and see how loud my car is at 80mph. It's bloody loud I know that. It measures at 92db constant from as near to my ear as I can get the meter and still drive comfortably, going up to 98-100 when changing gears etc. I've just looked on the net and that's a deafening level if you listen for long enough! I think it's time to put my catalytic converter back on the car and remeasure.

A bit O/T but the UK tends to be fairly good with noise levels.

When I lived in Oz there were quite a few cars knocking about with screamer pipes. Tended to be old Holden V8's etc. Some would hurt your internal organs just idling.

Must have been a typo Pete, you were doing 70 on the motorway and got your passenger to hold the noise meter close to your ear surely ?
