Apologies for repeating the subject about the Volcano Ash but I wanted to talk about something that has been overlooked.

Has anyone noticed how clear the skies were since we had a flight ban? I am pretty sure the vast majority of the daily pollution had been cut in half thanks to the lack of planes out there.

So we have a goverment telling us that cars are bad for the environment blah blah blah yet we have had an unexpected demonstration of what is the worst pollutant i.e. a plane.

Food for thought

The government have been going on about planes for almost as long as cars, but considering there is a much smaller volume of planes than cars about, it may explain the lack of concentration on them - plus the government can fk over drivers, pilots are a little more difficult.

Also, good weather may have something to do with the season? Just a thought!

Living under the heathrow flight path, the planes were conspicuous by their absence this weekend. Had a lovely nap in the garden... for the first time ever I think! Plus, I could hear an owl hooting in the distance and lots of woodpeckers. I didn't realise there was so much nature to be heard in London.

It's the high cloud that's missing and making the skies look so clear. Aeroplanes are one of the major causes of high-altitude cirrus clouds (see http://www.co2offsetresearch.org/aviation/Contrail... for example). The same was noticed in the US after 9/11 IIRC.

Low-level "haziness" is caused by other stuff, like generic pollution, pollen, cars ( smile ), the sea etc.
