squeaky brakes
Discussion
I've just bought a new(er) car (its a 55 plate Ibiza FR), i love it to bits but the brakes are squeaking and its pissing me off to no end.
Any suggestions on what may be the cause? my dad thought it may of been just the pads had glazed over and it would stop by itself over time, i've been doing some heavy braking to try and wear it off and it did seem to go a bit better but then didn't go away.

Could be just a bit of rust build-up on the outer edge of the discs. A wire brush will sort that.
If it's not that, they may have been replaced recently but with the absence of copper grease on the backs of the pads.
It's been a while since my amateur mechanic days, so I may stand corrected...

Don't be a moron - not everyone will appreciate this is a joke.
OP - if you aren't the original owner it may be that the pads have been replaced by some "performance" or even some cheap pads.....I would be trying a set of the original manufacturers pads...

really should follow this up with " no don't do this i was joking" not everyone knows about such things and that could be a potentially nightmareish outcome.....
I know your joking so does above, but if someone actually did this how bad would you feel?
Use advise from the replies above. Also it is worth checking that the disc is in good health and a good guide is to run your finger nail on the shiny surface of the disk from the inner most part of the disc to the outer most edge (DO THIS WHEN YOU HAVE NOT USED THE CAR OTHERWISE IT WILL BE VERY HOT!). If the surface is uniform i.e. no bumps or ridges then the brake pads are doing a good job, and if not the likelihood is the pad is a cheap replacement. When you get to the outer edge of the disc, if you have a lip that is very pronounced then this is one of the likely causes of the squeaking. This will probably require a brake disc change especially if your car is still running on the factory fitted discs and is on around 40k miles typically.

Most likely IMO if the pads have been replaced with standard spec gear.
Alternatively, the previous owner may have changed the pads to an aftermarket material. Some of the worst make a hell of a racket when cold.

+1 Far and away the most likely problem. And thanks for nailing the utter clown who even mentioned lubricating the disc. There are some idiots in this world.
