I almost posted this the other day but have been too busy!

And then i read the story about the people buying the Pajero (in Spain appropriately!) and drove it home.

So if you were in:

1) Germany
2) Italy
3) Spain

What cars would you consider buying with a view to either resale in UK (or keeping if you're Harry Metcalfe!).

can be anything from euro250 to euro 10,000

the more classified links the better!

1) A big E55 AMG barge - 6-10 years old.
2) An Alfa - to be replaced with something French when it breaks down just over the border.
3) A moped.

Good call on the 2 wheeled things. As they don't come in left hand drive it'd be easier to sell over here.

Might have to leave the luggage behind though.

To get around the LHD issue and still maintain value it'd have to be a classic which people will overlook the LHD just to have.

E30 M3 above is good I'd think because it only came LHD. Also the Fiat Barchetta was LHD only I think.

^something yank?
possibly a porsche if you could find something decent for the money (because often they're prefered in LHD for the steering etc.)

Anything that is worth having over here but they only made in left hand drive, for me it might be a fiat barchetta in Italy or a classic Alfa spider if it was in budget.

Heard on the news today the people are paying 1000 euros a day in car hire to get home.

Surely you'd just buy an old banger?

if you don't speak the language and have minimal or no knowledge of cars you would almost definitely end up with a problem

Something LHD that's still worth money as a left hooker in the UK. E30 M3 or an Integrale I think smile

Woudln't it be a bit of a faff trying to sell the car in the UK though? Not just because of the 'leftyness' but also regards the paper work.

Is the paperwork a pain?

An associate of mine was stuck in Spain at the end of his family holiday. He had to get back to the UK so left his wife and kids at their villa and tried to rent a car. There was nothing available so he ended up buying the rental car office owner’s mate’s Mondeo for €750 (it was beyond a shed) and 3 days later was in his office in Leicester with a perfectly serviceable Mondy!
