My boss has got an open bodied 2+2 Derby Bentley special - no match for a Blower, but it's still no slouch. He was quicker off the line than my Focus when we were stooging round Le Mans last year nad it cruises at 80mph all day long quite happily. Not bad for something built in the early 1930s.aka_kerrly said:

The red one (an Itala maybe?) is pre-FIRST world war I suspect! Those pics of pre-war classics getting sideways are spectacular!!!! I have never seen anything like it.

A lot of people really underestimate the performance of the more serious pre-war cars. The silver arrow grand prix cars were hitting 200mph in the 1930s, and a road legal late '20s Bugatti Type 35 can hit 60mph in about 6 seconds!
Fun as it is to see them sideways...This kind of thing is bloomin scary!

Its even more scary when you see other cars bearing down on him, especially when he is obscured from view by his own car. The thoughts of what could happen if one of them hit him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LATwSlHdiPY

Ouch! Still that's the way it use to happen. Until modern rollover protection you genuinely were safer being thrown out and people survived some unbeleivable accidents after being jetisoned before their car somersaulted and crumpled.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LATwSlHdiPY
