Title says it all. Of course right now I can't afford one, but after uni if I get a decent enough job I have a strange attraction to the Ram; namely the SRT10, as the idea of a pickup truck powered by the 8.3 litre V10 from a Viper is both mad and at the same time so appealing, if only to ps off the eco mentalist society who seem to think everyone at our uni should be driving a Prius. Something like this should certainly do it http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1387291.htm
£20k sounds so tempting, thats Mondeo money! I know, its vulgar beyond belief, would be hideously expensive to run and being LHD it would be hopelessly impractical, but I just can't help but want one.
Any owners out there want to scare me off the idea with an estimate for running costs? I'm guessing around 10mpg if I'm lucky, but I still want one.

One of my old neighbours had one.

Absolutely massive. If he was driving down the road on the estate, you'd both have to mount the kerb to avoid him!

MPG was hideous, but he did rag it everywhere too, single figures IIRC.

Loved it though, and so did he.

20k, yank tank, not an particuarly good product, LHD, totally unusable in our society, 6MPG at £1 a mile in fuel, crap dealer network, Rio Ferdinand image and everyone looking at you like a .

Dodge Ram is very very cool cool in my book and I want one.

Personally I say if you want speed, go diesel wink

Seriously, all the quick guys run the 5.9 Cummins straight 6 diesel. A few tweeks and they'll make 550hp easy and apart from busting gearboxes 800hp and 1200lb ft is not such a daft or unrealistic proposition as it might sound

Some guy has a white one that he drives around Guildford. IMO they look totally stupid over here, chintzy chav wagon, the last word in tasteless IMO.

They work in the US, having seen many on my travels, over here they are ridiculous, plus everyone will think you’re a bigger prick than a BWM driver to have one smile

Unusable?

MPG can be a lot better, depends how you drive, but to be fair, how good is an X5M on fuel?? Or a RRS if you rag it.

As for size, have you never seen a Transit van, LGV or lorry on the roads eek

LHD is perfectly usable, even more so in a high up vehicle - gone on ask me how I know... lol wink

Running one is no bother, very reliable and well built and loads of fantastic independent specialists, most service items will be stocked on the shelf and anything oddball probably available in 48-72 hours, which is often better than cars sold on mass in the UK with large dealer networks.

A Transit van, LGV or Lorry are commercial vehicles, they are that size and scale to fulfil a purpose, not quite the same as some wanabee cowboy in a Ram is it?

Brilliant in every way.

However I have never driven one and my wallet wouldn't stand for it.

What a bit of kit though. Apparently you can pull over a house built on the side of a cliff on stilts. Mel Gibson proved this... he was driving a old Ram right????

No, but they use the same road network, so there prove that a vehicle of this size is not so unusable in Britain. And to be fair, the Ram is a commercial vehicle too, is it in principle any different to the go faster VW Transporters or the hotted up Ford Transits?

Grand Cherokee SRT-8 instead?

Much more usable, still with plenty of Yank-style tyre smoking performance if you like that sort of thing.

Agreed.

You just have to resign yourself to the fact that some things work elsewhere, but not here.

Here's another example - scooters. Uber cool if you're in Milan, but slightly sad in England.
