I have a 12v bike battery, in the kids go cart aswell as a plug in the mains battery charger.

When I connect the battery to the charger the “fuse-ok" light comes on but not the charging light!

On reading the instructions for the charger it states that it will not start charging unless it senses a minimum of 6v in the battery – checking the battery with a volt meter it reads just over 3v.

Is there anyway I can get the battery upto 6v so the charger kicks in or is it a case of a new battery, the current one is less than 6 months old and only be used to start the go cart a dozen times, but left idle since October.

could you hook it into your car with jumpleads for 10 mins or so? this might get it over 6v and allow you to use the charger.

Your bike battery is knackered if it's down to 3 volts.

Agreed - battery is dead. Your only chance is to try using a trickle charger like an optimate or a ctek.

Where did you get the battery from? Lots of places (like Halfords etc) have a fairly long warranty. Maybe take it back where you got it, with the receipt, and ask if they can do anything for you...

Make sure the place you're charging it has a relatively high ambient temperature. I ended up getting a last gasp out of a 6v battery by charging it in the airing cupboard...

Cheers,
Tom
